Hello,
I have recently gotten engaged to a wonderful man who is Coptic Orthodox. I am Catholic and although he would never ask me to convert I have suggested it. We have been to church together many. My converting is not simply because we're getting married but because I feel I have developed a closer relationship wit God as a result of my introduction to this faith.
We're meeting with the priest tomorrow to discuss all of these things. I'm just a little nervous when he asks for my reasons for converting. I know that a person should not convert just because of marriage. However, the truth is i might never have been introduced to this religion had I not met my fiance. And so I'm considering converting as a result of his introducing me to the church.
Would the priest say that I am converting for the wrong reason? I guess is my biggest concern.

Let's just say... what if... Adam & Eve didn't disobey God and eat from the tree of knowledge.

Where would we all be right now ? What kind of life would we have had - or at least, THEY have had, had they been obedient?

Here are the points I'd like to know:

* If they wouldn't have died, and their bodies not been corrupted, it means they'd have lived until eternity. It means they'd have been in eternal youth - all their lives? Wouldn't it?
* If they would have been eternal in their youth, what would be the effect of them having kids? At what age would the kids stop growing?

How would it work? I mean, we eat, and we grow older. Would this be different in anyway had Adam & Eve not fallen from grace??

It would also mean that the population would be humungous by now , as no one would have died since the time of their birth.

OK. Here's another question:

Let's say adam & eve didn't eat from the tree, but their great great grandchildren did. What would have happened?
What would have happened to Adam & Eve? Would they have been thrown out of the Paradise? Or just their grandchildren??

Thanks

I thought Mary had sins just like us??

he Assumption (Dormition) of the Mother of God
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Orthodox church, Mary, being the Mother of God, is very important. Mary was the first Christian, as she whole-heartedly accepted God's mission for her. The name of our church, the Assumption, or Dormition (falling asleep in the Lord), of Mary, is significant because the Assumption of Mary into Heaven shows us that she was sinless. While not free from immaculate conception as she was of the lineage of David, Mary had no sin her whole life. Really, how could God be born of a woman with sin? Mary's pure body was the vessel through which Christ our Lord entered the world through the power of the Holy Spirit.

I know that his human side might have been afraid of the pain it would go through but even his human side should have wanted to suffer for us if he really loved us.
Hello,

I'd like to know why the Coptic Orthodox Church does not get involved in Politics like other Churches. It seems strange to me that we elect politicians who try and bring peace to the world, and they fail miserably - yet we simply ignore Orthodox monks, bishops and Popes who spend their entire lives preaching peace and living in brotherly peace. Surely, they would be better diplomats of peace than any diplomat.

Also, where righteousness is concerned, or fairness - shouldnt the Church be involved also? I feel sometimes the Church keeps quiet, and the needs of the Coptic people are subdued by this gorey silence. For example: had the CoC been active in Politics from the beginning (back in the early 1800's or even before), wouldnt rights for Coptic Christians be a non-issue by now? What seems to happen is that our Patriarchs have complained silently or perhaps not really complained at all, and the result: there is more friction between Copts and Muslims than ever before.

I'm sure you've all seen the videos on youtube of our beloved pontiff crying on TV over this issue. I know he was upset due to the attacks in alexandria, and those that got killed, but... there's a small saying that goes like this:

If you think how you've always thought, and you do what you've always done,
you'll get what you've always got

And we've always got discrimination in Egypt. I mean, if there was no discrimination, and we were not treated as 2nd class citizens then speaking coptic or arabic or both wouldnt be an issue. Because we are treated as 2nd Class citizens in Egypt, we tend to hold on strongly to our own language "Coptic" as we seem to be unaccepted in our Country that speaks arabic. - and that's really bad, because when Copts start saying "Coptic is the language of Egypt!" they are denying that "Arabic is now the official language of Egypt" - and I feel that this just adds more fuel to the fire.

Hello all.

Please could you help me understand a point here.

What is the difference between our spirits and our souls? H.H. Pope Shenouda often talks about our spirits, and how repentence purifies our spirits.. (or something along those lines). But then what is our souls? What is the difference between our souls and spirits.

Do all humans have spirits and souls or just Coptic Orthodox Christians?

I mean, does one gain a spirit, or is one born with a spirit???

Also, do animals have spirits?
