I am not a Coptic but I would like to know more

one of my questions is what does the Coptic church say about the nation Israel from the churches that I come from mainly the Protestant there are two views one says the “Church” replaced Israel as Gods chosen people and the other says that Israel and the Church are separate

being Israels 60th Birthday I thought this would be a good question to ask and it is my first :)

If I have communion on a Wednesday or Friday, and I take communion before 3:00PM, should I continue fasting after communion until 3:00PM, or is the fast considered broken.

A while ago Anba Bishoy's body used to shake hands with people that came to see it, until one day he refused to shake a kings hand. After that the pope forbade him to shake anyone else hand and he hasn't since then. So my question is is there any pictures of his body? and does anyone know what year this was?

Yes you may have seen this topic Sprout out before. It needs to be said that the coptic church DOESN'T know squat about Homosexuality has anyone read the book on Homosexuality and the Ordination of women? Better yet I'll just give you this link to a youtube post I found earlier today.

The church's only approach seems to be only condemnation.

Monasteries Closing to visitors till the 14th of October

Hi, i don't know if you guys heard, but i beleive that some, if not all the Monasteries in Egypt are closed to visitors till the 14th of Octobre becasue of a threat from muslims that they will blow up the Monasteries.... I later got an e-mail saying that Anba Bishoy appeard in His Holy Monastery... please some one confirm this if they heard anything... and please don't take my word for it until some one else confirms it...i don't want to be spreading around false facts...but these are what i heard...

I know that the part about the Moansteries closing to visitors is true becasue it was the Priest that told us.... so at least I know that much is true.....

CAIRO - An Egyptian Coptic Christian shot at his sister and her family, killing her husband, after she converted to Islam and married a Muslim, a security official said on Tuesday.

Rami Atef Khella, 28, broke into the Cairo apartment of his sister, Miriam Atef Khella, and sprayed her family of three with gunfire, killing Ahmed Saleh and injuring Miriam and her daughter, the official said.

The official said Khella had been searching for his sister for about two years, after she left her home province with her Muslim husband and came to Cairo.

Police are searching for Khella and an uncle who accompanied him to his sister's home and fled the scene after the attack, the official said.

Egypt's Copts -- the largest Christian community in the Middle East -- account for an estimated six percent of the country's 80 million inhabitants.

Last week, a Copt was shot dead when Muslims and Copts fought in a town in southern Egypt after a Muslim was accused of flirting with a Coptic girl.

My problem in London (England) is that all the Orthodox churches use a liturgical language, not English. Its easier for the educated to put in the time and energy to learn what is going on. But what about the poor, meek and not-well-educated?

What do you all suggest while we wait for the vernacular to take over (if it ever does)?

I would like your views on this subject on how we attract everyman to our faith.

Hey, you know in this new movie Hassan and Morcos, Adel Imam is wearing a priests clothes but he can take them off (I mean it's allowed, whereas with normal priests it's not), and he doesn't have to have a beard and he doesn't wear a hat (I don't know the exact term). So what position is that in the church exactly, what are the duties of such a person?? I know for sure it exists (not only in the movie) but in real life, since I've seen such men on pictures also...

Could someone please explain, and are there any other positions in church that are relatively unknown yet do exist???

(oh and ps: what's the difference between osqof and moutraan?)

Isn't it okay to liken Baptism to Resurrection and Confirmation to Pentecost?

Baptism: We die in Christ, we rise in Christ.

Confirmation: We receive the Holy Spirit.

Confirmation can be ANY TIME after Baptism.

I am not sure though if these are just coincidences or not, so please someone help me!!!

This is mainly directed to those who have indepth knowledge of the Saints of the Coptic Orthodox Church. I was reading the "Coptic Orthodox Book of Saints" and I remember crossing over a pope who was actually married! I was wondering if you had the name of this saint. He did not actually perform sexual actions with his wife and proved it by placing coal on her dress at church!

If someone could please get back to me with the name of the Saint as I no longer have the book, it would be greatly appreciated!

Ok people here are two videos i found while browising on youtube.

what do use think of this video. in my opinion the black thing sort of looks like the head of a dead lamb. And do use reckon Anba Athanasius the bishop doing the mass can see what we see?

if u pause around the 55 second mark, u can see at the top of the building wat seems to be an apperition by a person. My friend told me that the person who appears is the same person whose funeral they are celebrating(didnt know wat other words to use). its the funeral of a monk named Abouna Abdelmaseeh el-naqouloni.

Not too long ago a bishop was over our house, and the subject of monasticism came up. The general conclusion was that "its current state, is much different from what it orignally was."
Nowadays monk cells are being built having some of the following luxuries: tiled floors, 2 seperate rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom, some even have airconditioning (i personally witnessed teh building of these cells with this general format).

In my personal opinion, i find it totally against the whole point of monasticism. These people are sworn into a sacred society taht live by poverty amongst other things. Are these things really required?

I would appreciate your opinions, because i know there are two sides to a story, and i'd love to see the other side.

Feasts of the cross?
