In some churches ive heard... of one essence with the Father, by Whom all things were made...and in other instead of, of one essence, they say Coessential with the father...which one is right? and if there is no right and wrong go to the poll and choose which one you think we should use

Does Israel have the right to exist?

Hello,

I would like to know what the position of the CoC is with respect to Israel's right to exist.

As far as I can see, Israel was only created in 1948. Menachem Begin said that it was the land of their forefathers.

Biblically speaking, who does this land belong to?

hey guys! i had a question for a while but i never got a chance to ask anyone... so here it is :)

is it wrong to own incense and put it in a shoria and enjoy the sweet smell of it at home???

i never thought it was wrong until i heard Abouna once say that no one is allowed to offer incense except a priest... does this mean in church? or anywhere??

the reason this is confusing is because i was in a monastery in Egypt and they were selling boxes of incense, shorias...
if this is wrong then why do they sell so many of it in the gift shops??

Hey everyone

So last year around this time my brother was like fixing his car or something and i was helping him...and you know those like preachers i guess they're called that go door to door, well 2 of them came up to us that day and were saying like how there isn't really like the end of the world where we will be judged and they said that like Jesus already came i don't remember exactly what they said because it happened awhile ago but thats kind of the overview of what they were saying so im asking when people like them come up to you and start saying that how do you think i should respond because when they came up to me and started talking like i said No thats wrong and they used the verse that says like in the sky you will see the sign of the son of man which is the cross but how should i give a SOLID answer

I know that St.Mary's dad is Joachim but is her mom's name Anna or Hannah? In arabic it translates to Hannah but I've heard it Anna before. OR do they both mean the same thing?

My Church is planing a trip there in the Christmas brake and i am going, so i would like to see pictures and hear anything you guys want to say about the Monastery.

Hey,

I remember seeing a documentary once, and reading about, an Australian man (from Tasmania, for those playing at home) who went to Egypt and is a monk in St Antony's monastery. Has anyone heard of him, or do they know any sites on the net that has information about him? All i can remember is that his mother had cancer, she died, he got angry at God, and then he went to Egypt, visited St Antony's monastery and then decided he wouldnt ever leave.. Anyone else knows anything about this monk??

In Matt.9:26 it states "And the report of this went out into all the land" This was stated after the great miracle done by our savior of raising the daughter of a ruler. Yet in that same chapter in verse 30 it says "And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them saying,[glow=yellow,2,300] 'see that no one knows it.'"

Why would this happen in one he lets everyone know and in the other he warns them not to tell. Well yes some will say " he had no choice with the rulers daughter", but if people already know he does miracles why not let them know all the miracles.

Hello everyone,
I have just been going through the Agpeya online posted on the below-mentioned sites. After the Prayer of Thanksgiving, begins Psalm 50 (or should it be Psalm 51). I looked up the Bible and sure enough you get

"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your great mercy; .....................Then You shall be pleased with sacrifices of righteousness, offering, and burnt sacrifices: then they shall offer calves upon Your altar".

But this is Psalm 51. On all of the below-mentioned sites, this psalm is consistently mentioned as Psalm 50.

Forgiveness of Sins...

Hello all,

In the gospel, (I apologize I don't have exact quote) Jesus tells the apostles that they can now go out and spread the word. He mentions to them that any sins they forgive shall be forgiven, and any sins you retain shall be retained.

This is basically the authority by which our FOC use to take our confessions and forgive us. is this correct?

If that is correct my question is, under what circumstances would Abouna reply and say no you are not forgiven this sin, this is retained. Do they not forgive murder? adultery? greed? is up to each individual Abouna to decide weather or not he going to forgive you your sins? And finally if Abouna doesn't forgive you, can you go to another Abouna and try your luck again, or is that it you are condemned to the fires of hell.

This question has been on my mind for a while. I hope I worded it clearly.

I thought I’ll share this sentence that I've found on an old liturgy of a priest.

"Who ever is pure let him approach, and who ever is defiled let him leave so he doesn’t burn from the fire of the divinity."

This is (was) part of the confession prayer during our Coptic liturgy. This statement is very strong to those who understand it. The original text of course is Arabic. That why I included the Arabic first because of the meaning. The English I just translated so all can understand. This sentence was mentioned before in some threads about other topics and I have heard about it from many but I just never found a text or and audio file until today.

Hunger strike = suicide ???

I just read that Mario and Andrew (the two boys whose father became a muslim and who are now forced by law to go and live with him and who received new pasports saying they're muslims following their father) have decided to go on hunger strike till death if they were forcefully removed from their mother to go and live with their father.

Isn't hunger strike till death a form of committing suicide???

My humble opinion is that they should ask God to give them strength to go through this, but committing suicide slowly like that is like saying if the law won't give us our rights then we will kill ourselves, instead of : we will pray and let God do what He thinks is best...

Would anyone like to share their views on this?

I have a friend who is seriously doubting the faith right now. One of the questions he asks me is how is it that Jonah can live in the belly of a fish for three days? I don't know how to answer him besides that this is God and he is all powerful. Can anyone else give me a better response? Thanks, and keep him in your prayers.
