Artificial Insemination

I have been reading online and found that the eastern orthdox church approves of artificial insemination in certain cases. And someone told me that this is the coptic church's view too. As I understand, artificial insemination involves masturbation which I thought was a sin in all cases. So if masturbation is always a sin, how come artificial insemination is not also always a sin?

i was just wondering, if you are an ooghnostos, is it wrong to puposly not wear your botroshein, like you have it with you and it fits, but you just dont feel like it. is that worng?

Hello people of the world who own computers!!

I was just wondering why copts say the lord's prayer after every prayer, instead of just ending with a simple "amen" like all others do. is there any reason why we do this?

I was just talking a couple days ago with a buddy, who was telling me about the recent election of a to-be-priest for their church. The vote was not unanimous at all: The to-be priest got like 280 votes, runner up got 250, and the other nominee got like 180 [the numbers are probably off, but you guys get the point].

According to what I know, a priest, is CHOSEN by God? I'm wondering how so? I know we believe that God knows everything, but what i'm seeing [and correct me if im mistaken] is that the fate of the church's new priest was left in the hands of the congregation who voted/elected him.

Russian Patriarch to visit Alexandria

Dear Friends

I heard that Patriarch Kyrill will visit the (Greek?) Patriarch of Alexandria in the middle of next month.

I don't know whether he will pay a visit to HH Pope Shenouda, perhaps someone knows something about his itinerary.

Just to say that at the end of the 19th the two churches (Russian and Coptic) were having talks about union I believe (I read the article in French but can't find it in now). Whether the discussions were political or religious I don't know but I'm praying that the two churches 'get together' in some way again.

Please pray that the church witnesses effectually to Christ

here is a condensed meaning...

1. the tree of obedience surrounds saint John even forming his halo... which is because his life was all obedience!
2. there are ten random leaves, which reach almost everywhere in the icon... and thats because his obedience blessed anywhere and everywhere and blessed him!
3. the main branches are two... two is the second month is baba... and there is twenty fruits for his feast being on the twentieth
4. the tree is split into seven parts because he was perfected in obedience.
5. the tree splits in three branches/roots... because anywhere and everywhere he went and taught... he did for the trinity...

Hello, a friend of mine is getting married with a polish women in a Coptic church in Egypt.
She doesn't want to become a Coptic and the man checked with his father in the church that she then need only to bring a permition from a polish catolic bishop that she can have an arthodox ( but not Coptic ) sacrament of marriage in the church without catholic canonic order...Is it possible that they got a permition and they will get married in a Coptic church?....Thank you for any answers.

I was asked a question about the coptic church. Is it an Eastern Rite church? Is it a branch of the Catholic church? I am almost sure that that is not true. we are seperate. the question also asked if we are like the melikites who are eastern but are faithful to the Catholic Pope. i answered no considering we have a different H.H. Pope Shenouda. i was asked to do research on this topic and no better place to find out than here. please help me. What do we follow or are we our own thing? I always understood it as Eastern Orthodox. Are we eastern orthodox? do we follow the Catholics? i always thought no but i did some reasearch and i saw something about coptic catholics. this confused me.

How is the Egyptian Orthodox Church doing? I once heard that they were prosecuted by the Moslems and that they even get killed. Actually sometimes that happens in Ethiopia too. But I think what happens on Egyptian christians is worse. Were u able to get some solution? Couple of months ago there was some kind of demonstration regarding it in US town. Did the government interfere? Or is it worse?

I am planning on attending a Coptic Orthodox Church this coming Sunday. I have attended a Greek Orthodox Church before but never a Coptic Orthodox. The closest Coptic Orthodox Church in my area is about an hours drive away but I am more than willing to make the drive if, as I am seeming to find, the Coptic Orthodox Church is the church of the early church fathers.

With this in mind, can any of you give me tips or advice for preparing and participating in the divine liturgy? I come from a Protestant background and am new to any liturgy.

I wanted to give my Sunday school kids a lesson about Candles and their use in the church since many have asked me about them before. However, I can't find any resources online on the significance of the use of candles. So, I was wondering if you guys could help me out a bit. I am more concerned with why we light candles in front of the icons of the saints? and also their significant use in the liturgy (on the alter, while reading the gospel, etc.). Also any info about how the candles are made and how they relate to church tradition.

Remenkimi's Song of Solomon isn't working, and the other one (http://www.coptic-bible.co.nr/) doesn't have old testament. I was wondering if anyone knew, why priests of the COC [and some other denominations] cover their heads during the Holy Liturgy?
I would assume, its out of respect? But if that was the case, shouldn't the whole congregation cover their heads, let alone, the deacons who actually serve inside the altar?

Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone just saw CTV, but they just did the vespers for Saint Refka - H.E. Anba Bishoy was there.

Without any exaggeration, that must have been the best vespers i've heard in my life.

It was all in Coptic, I didnt understand a word. But its a good thing we didnt lose our Coptic language.

Does anyone have the recording of it?
