Hello,

In the liturgy the priest prays " Likewise also the cup after supper He mixed it of wine and water. He gave thanks.."

If I am not mistaken, the bible does not say that Jesus Himself mixed wine with water. Therefore,if that is so, we do not know for sure, unless we rely on the customs and traditions of wine mixing of the day.Perhaps, the practice of adding water has symbolic significance , but I do not think that it is necessary for the validity of the Holy Sacrament. I do not know if the mixing of water is in reference to the verse in (Proverbs 9:5): 'Drink the wine which I have mixed for you.? However, why is it important to mix the wine with water, bearing in mind, that there is already large amount of water in the finished product of wine?

How do you explain that?

When exactly did God create man?

Did God create dinasaurs , or did they evolve?

Scientists insist that the world startedf from a BIG BANG - How do you, as a Christian, relate to such theories?
I was told that another thread I posted was pointless. It was. So I have to make up for it. Hopefully in this thread we can all guess who said the statement that I have posted here. Then everyone will get to guess until someone gets it right, or atleast the first person gets it right. I can give clues as well. The goal is to get people more familiar with the writings of the early church fathers in a fun way. There is a prize.

Which Father said this?:

So dont say further to me: "what harm, after all, comes from passing the time here?" Because that single factor of a horse race is sufficient to cause the ruin of your soul. You see, whenever we waste precious time on worthless things, which, far from contributing anything to our soul, even harm it, and when we squabble and pour out a flood of words good and bad, what excuse do we have? What account can we give? To draw a comparison: here in church if we tend to protract the instruction, many people become restive and impatient, and allege bodily distress and weariness, although this wonderful ceiling is sufficient to distract them from that, there are no grounds for complaint in cold, or rain, or force of winds. There, on the contrary, where they are scourged by heavy rain and fierce wind storms, or at other times the sun sheds its burning rays, they are prepared to spend not an hour or two but most of the day; the aged have no respect for their own grey hair, while the young are not ashamed to patronize the haunts of the old; so great, however, is their self-deception that it is with relish that they embrace that bane of their soul, and no thought is given to the brevity and impermanence of the harmful pleasure, the eternity of the pain, and the accusation of conscience.

How do you know if someone is REALLY Christian, and not just acting?

This isn't a topic that should go under PERSONAL ISSUES. (but if you disagree - please move it)

Let me explain why:

Marriage is a sacrament. Its not a personal issue. Your marriage is indeed a public and Holy affair. The selection of a wife/husband, isn't something trivial, but it should involve God from the start; even from the selection process.

But how does one choose?

What should you look for?

What questions should he ask a girl to know whether she really is who she says she is??

For me personally, I think God reveals everything to you; and its for you to decide. Everyone is probably at different spiritual levels, and these levels are manifested to you. that's my opinion. Shall I just tell him that?

This might be a topic that is touchy for people, for that I apologize. Since there was a schism I would like to elaborate. This is also why I chose Oriental over Eastern when converting, even tho I tell Copts I converted because of the food! What I find so amazing about the 4th council is the pride and arrogance that was on display. When it came down to what actually caused the schism, the nature of Christ, the Oriental defined the nature of Christ exactly how St Cyril of Alexandria defined it and was accepted by all at the 3rd council. This is what is amazing, the Eastern and Latins defined it differently and we accepted both definitions, as we would not denounce the definition of St Cyril. Yet they refused to accept our definition, yet accept the 3rd Council.

Another thing I have noticed while studying this council in particular, is the way in which Pope Leo acted. St. Dioscorus gets alot of grief for how he acted, but Pope Leo acted like a madman and it seemed as if he acted on jealousy and personal gain more than anything. Possibly upset that Alexandria seemingly had more power than them. Pope Leo scolded St Dioscorus for allowing Eutyches back into the church, even tho Eutyches repented and recanted his view. (later on he did go back to them but after this council) Yet Leo had written a letter to Eutyches praising him for his zealous attitude.

Also, the Eastern Orthodox regard St Dioscorus as an "arch heretic" as well as St. Severus. Which to me is dumbfounding. Proclaiming St Cyril's definition makes one a heretic?

So I work with a Greek Orthodox Person and we always talk about our religions and how they are similar and different. One thing that came up was how we cross ourselves. The Father and The Son are the same. Then when the two spots for the Holy Spirit come, we switch them. The Greek Orthodox cross from Right to Left.

Why is this different? I thought that only minor beliefs were different and we all crossed ourselves since Christianity began.
