      <description><![CDATA[Hi everyone,<br /><br />my priest asked me for an english version of the service book (ie the book that contains the prayers for the sacraments, in arabic its known as&nbsp; &quot;ketab el khadamaat&quot;). Sometimes these prayers are prayed for people here who understand neither arabic or dutch, so if anyone knows the way to this book in digital form, it would be greatly appreciated.<br /><br />If not, a way to contact a church or site that sells this book and could ship it, would be a good alternative!<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />Matt]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[<span><span><i><span>My Dear Brethren,<br /><br />The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.<br /><br />As October 31st draws near, I want to make all uninformed Christians in our Diocese aware of certain traditions celebrated in the United States on this day. The &quot;Halloween&quot; celebration pays tribute to Satan. Every act revolving around Halloween is in honor of false gods. False gods are spirits in the Satanic realm.<br /><br />&quot;We only do this for fun&quot;, some say. &quot;We do not actually practice witchcraft&quot;, others repeat. I often wonder how one justifies the celebration of Halloween, the day Satanists have set aside as their &quot;holy day&quot;. I am told that children &quot;dress up&quot; as witches, goblins, ghosts and little devils. Let me think about this for a moment, a small child dressed to resemble Satan&#39;s darkness. Also, I am told of games played at Halloween festivals that promote fear in children as they are ushered through horror houses and rooms decorated with skeletons, black cats, and bats. Does this representation of death and darkness seem like fun? Certainly not to me, I am told that pumpkins designed with faces are &quot;cute ways&quot; to denote the present day meaning of Halloweenthe literature purports that pumpkin faces are symbolic of skulls. Also around Halloween I am told of theatre movies which celebrate the cult of death...Somehow I still have not found fun within all of this...Have you? Have your children? To me, this sounds more like fixation with death and mental illness to me...<br /><br />Many attempt to compromise on the celebrating of Halloween. Many think the meaning behind Halloween has become obscure today. The fact of the matter is, the actual methodology of witchcraft survives until today. When our children are taught it is &quot;alright&quot; to celebrate heathen practices such as &quot;Halloween&quot; it does not give them the repulsion and resistance they need to stand against greater Satanic involvement. When celebrations such as these are taken lightly, it sets a precedence for our children to accept evil rather than resist it.<br /><br />Many have asked me, &quot;What is the harm?&quot; My answer to this question is that occultism can be seen as a threatening storm brewing on the religious horizon gredually becoming very strong. More specifically, let&#39;s contemplate a moment on the origin of &quot;Halloween,&quot; begun as a day to give tribute and praise to the dark forces of Satan. &quot;Halloween&quot; is derived from the word &quot;Samhain (Sa-ween).&quot; Samhain, the lord of the dead, called together all the wicked souls who had died within the past year and were destined to inhabit animals. The celebration of the dead honored the god of the dead on this particular night, October 31st. Bonfires were lit high on mountaintops so the spirits of the dead could find their way. Suitable food and shelter were provided for these evil spirits or they would inflict havoc, cast spells, steal infants, destroy crops, kill farm animals, and instill terror as they haunted the living. This is where &quot;trick or treat&quot; is derived. To worship evil spirits and false gods is against scripture.<br /><br />If one knows the Lord Jesus Christ before death, their spirit will be with the Lord. St Paul tells us that to be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord Christ. If one is an unbeliever at death, the scripture says there is no second chance as &quot;it is appointed unto man once to die and after that judgment&quot;. Therefore, prayer for the satanic is in opposition to God&#39;s Word and a pagan practice cannot become &quot;Christianized.&quot; We must make a decision to be for or against Christ. Our Christian practices must display our beliefs and be an example to the others.<br /><br />Furthermore, Ephesians 5:6-12 states, &quot;Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.&quot;<br /><br />It is at this point I want the reader to stop and think about October 31st. Do we find &quot;All Saints Day&quot; in the Coptic Synaxarium? My Synaxarium does not contain this celebration. Please let me know if yours does. I would certainly like to read this. I was under the impression we celebrated Coptic Saints throughout the ENTIRE year, not on one particular day. While you were searching in your Coptic Synaxarium did you happen to notice two very important feasts, which occur on October 31st, and another the following day? Did you know that the Commemoration of St Mary and the Feast of Anba Roewis occur on October 31st? I am quite sure these feasts were more familiar to you as Copts than the pagan celebration of &quot;Halloween&quot;. Am I correct? The following day is the Feast Day of the Great Evangelist St Luke. I am quite sure you also knew this. Am I again correct?<br /><br />I do not believe it is in Christian fellowship to celebrate Halloween. I do NOT encourage our children to dress in costumes. Costumes on this night are symbolic of celebrating Halloween. The same holds true for the acceptance of candy. Please think about the following pointsWhy do we not greet one another during the Holy Passion Week from Wednesday until Saturday morning? It is because we do not want to do anything symbolic of Judas kiss. Another thought to coincide with this thought is, on Holy Thursday we must complete the Divine Liturgy, according to Church Canons, before sunset. There is a reason for this. The Coptic Church does not want to have fellowship with the Jews eating during the Passover. Therefore, any day not set aside for Halloween; any day in which these practices are not symbolic of Satanic practices is alright for eating candy and wearing appropriate costumes. There exists 364 days in which one can eat candy and wear costumes. Only one day in which one cannot.<br /><br />Attend Church, the Vespers, and the Exaltation of the Saints on October 31st. Create plays and skits for the great saints St. Mary, St. Roewis, and St. Luke. The Mother of God, the poor layman who sold salt, and the Gospel writer&#39;s life can teach us so much! Reflect upon their lives. Spiritually meet together, and then enjoy the social atmosphere of Christian fellowship, Saints&#39; plays and Agape meal. Let&#39;s all give thanks to God for a true Christian reason to celebrate this day!<br /><br />I want to close with one final thought. Using witchcraft to foretell the future was against God&#39;s Law and caused King Saul of Israel to lose his life. I Samuel 28:7-8 says, &quot;Then Saul said to his servants, &#39;Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.&#39; And his servants said to him, &#39;In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.&#39; So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, &#39;Please conduct a sance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you&#39;.&quot; (It should be noted that familiar spirits are nothing more than demons). Has anyone ever told you about the psychic phone lines and readings offered on television? I have been told of these things and am appalled that anyone would use these whether in jest or seriously. Foretelling the future by psychics is clearly addressed here. Read further to discover what happened to King Saul and his involvement with &quot;familiar spirits&quot;.<br /><br />The Lord Pronounced His sever punishment upon Saul that very night; &quot;And the LORD has done for Himself as He spoke by me. For the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, David. Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD nor execute His fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you this day&quot; (I Samuel 28:17-18).<br /><br />The Bible clearly warns us to flee from the occult practices. It delineates the consequences making it forbidden to mankind. I did not find one reference to &quot;only doing this for fun.&quot; How can one derive &quot;fun&quot; from celebrating darkness and honoring the &quot;lord of the dead&quot;?<br /><br />Satan worship is prevalent today in middle schools and high schools. We address this issue frequently in our youth meetings. Literature searches have revealed that at least 100 million Americans practice some form of the occult. We know that using witchcraft to foretell the future was a crime that cost King Saul his life.       <description><![CDATA[Hi,<br /><br />I&#39;d like to know what or who you believe IS the beast in revelations 13. <br /><br />In revelations 13, 17-18, it says:
<blockquote><div><br />And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.<br /></div></blockquote>
I&#39;d like to know: what is Six hundred threescore and six? What is &quot;Threescore&quot;? <br /><br />I read a few books on this, and apparently, the number of this &quot;beast&quot; points to Mohammad. Sorry to say this, but it really doesn&#39;t look too promising for him. <br /><br />What do you think of that??<br /><br />The reasoning is this:<br /><br />Most theories have spotted something quite interesting: <br /><br />The letters in the original language of the Book of Revelation that equate to 666 looks/resembles the words &quot;Bism Allah&quot;. One of the characters even being an &quot;x&quot; sign, or &quot;chi&quot; in Coptic. <br /><br />Obviously, you don&#39;t need to be a genius to figure out that this is the emblem of Islam (the 2 swords), and the Saudi flag. <br /><br />So, apparently, people will carry this sign around their heads. Well, Islamic militants do tend to wear headbands with this sign on it. Don&#39;t they? <br /><br />It really does seem to be pointing to Mohammad.<br /><br />a) 1st it says in Revelations 13: &quot;and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. &quot; <br /><br />I would say that Mohammad&#39;s god is blasphemous. I think we all agree on that??<br /><br />b) No one would be able to make war with this beast.<br /><br />How exactly do you start a war with Islam? <br /><br />c) &quot;Who is like unto the beast&quot; ? <br /><br />I do get the impression that muslims tend to say this often about their prophet and their religion. <br /><br />d) &quot;And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them:and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.&quot;<br /><br />Well well.. that would be us, that would have been every Christian persecuted by this religion since the 6th century. Wouldn&#39;t it? From the siege of constantinople, to the invasion of Egypt by Amr ibn Ass - or whatever his name is to the attacks on the WTC on 9/11.<br /><br />e) &quot;And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.&quot;<br /><br />What can I say? too bad, so sad.. never mind. Such a shame they&#39;re not coming. <br /><br />Anyway, with Islamisation of Europe, and most of the west, it does look as if Islam is gaining momentum. But I&#39;m not worshipping, i&#39;m only eating Hallal meat. I&#39;m not worshipping him, but I&#39;m forced to read the Quran as a Christian in Egypt. I&#39;m not worshipping him, but im forced to respect him. <br /><br />So, yeah.. I can see how St John could just summarise this and say &quot;all those that dwell on the earth shall worship him&quot;.. why we&#39;re even building a mosque for him at Ground 0. <br /><br />f) &quot;And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.<br /> <br />12&nbsp; And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.&quot;<br /> <br />Any takes on this one guys?? <br /><br />So, which power in today&#39;s world is making people convert to Islam? Which power is pushing for people to worship Islam? <br /><br />before I attempt to answer that... let&#39;s see the next verses:<br /><br />g) &quot;and deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.&quot;<br /><br />I would say this, and I could be wrong: <br /><br />If the beast is Islam, then this 2nd beast is Saudi Arabia. Look : if Iraq and Afghanistan win this war (which looks most likely, Islam will appear victorious... tribal men with guns would have defeated the greatest military power in the world. That&#39;s a miracle. All this is being financed by Saudi money.&nbsp; <br /><br /><br />h) 15&nbsp; &quot;And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.<br /><br />What is the image of the beast?? New mosques? I don&#39;t know. <br /><br />As for having &quot;power to give life&quot; to the image of the beast, I&#39;d say this is Saudi Money and Fatwas.<br /><br />As many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed...<br /><br />OK - guys.. look: WHICH RELIGION KILLS YOU IF YOU RENOUNCE IT OR BECOME AN APOSTATE???? <br /><br />Let&#39;s see:<br />Judaism? - no.<br />Christianity? - no<br />Hinduism ? No<br />Buddism -? No?<br /><br />hmmm... if you have any ideas as to which religion kills apostates, please let me know. It could help in figuring out who this beast is?? <br /><br />And let&#39;s face it, we are prime targets of terrorist activities ONLY because we&#39;re not muslim. <br /><br />I) 16&nbsp; And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:<br /> <br />So, if the mark of the beast (666) is &quot;Bism Allah, &quot; and &quot;mohammad rassoool allah&quot; then surely that bandana that hamas wear (ON THEIR HEADS) is a good or reasonable answer.<br /><br />Children wear it too. They all want to die for this &quot;beast&quot; &#39;allah&#39; <br /><br />And they get it anyway, like Ayman Al Zawahiri, that little brown patch on their heads that they get from worshipping the beast. <br /><br />J) and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.<br /><br />I guess muslims are only doing business with muslims. Which makes sense. <br /><br />In Islam, everyone who is not muslim is a kafir - or unbeliever, and the koran teaches that they should not do business nor make friends with non muslims. <br /><br />It seems to me that the beast is Islam. <br /><br /><br />Does anyone have any other ideas who this beast is??? <br /><br />I know we talked about this before, and a few people said it was Anne Coulter.       <description><![CDATA[I&#39;m not 100% up to date with the current policy so I&#39;m hoping someone out there knows the rules. Are we still not allowed to travel to Israel due to the political situation? If so, does that also include the Holy Land? And if that&#39;s so, what about the Coptic altar we have in the Holy Sepulchre? I&#39;ve heard from some that only Egyptian nationals are banned but we as Americans/Canadians/whatever can travel there. I&#39;ve heard from others that all Copts are forbidden. Can anyone shed some light on this?]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[I&#39;d like to paste a few quotes from the Bible concerning stoning of others that was mainly carried out in the Old Testament.<br /><br />When people rebuke the Koran because it condones stoning of adulterers, non believers, whatever, then what is the difference, in your eyes, with Christianity???? <br /><br /><br />Am I missing something? Is God literally telling the People of Israel that they SHOULD be stoned - they deserve to be stoned, or that they HAVE TO be stoned?<br /><br /><br />So, the God of the Bible also advocated stoning?       <description><![CDATA[What is the best way we can help other Christian denominations respect us?<br /><br />Some elements in the Greek Orthodox Church look upon us as evil and heretical.<br />Some communities in the Roman Catholic Church see us also as heretical. <br /><br />I guess this is nothing to whinge about as these same elements in both Greek and Catholic actually have no respect for each other anyway. <br /><br />How do we move to situation where other denominations can respect us for the commonality we share with them as Apostolic Churches. <br /><br />I find it quite hurtful actually. <br /><br />Especially coming from Catholics who feel that our insubordination to Rome makes us all equivalent to satan worshippers. <br /><br />How can that be?! It doesnt nullify the priesthood of our bishops, our clergy etc. <br /><br />Before there is inter-faith dialogue, there should be at the very least inter-faith RESPECT. <br /><br />But how? ]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[I attended an Egyptian Festival held by a nearby church and they held tours on church history. They had a station on the censer and they had one lit and someone kept putting incense in it so people can see how it works and smells but no one is holding it and only the person in charge is inserting the incense.&nbsp; Is this ok? Wasn&#39;t there someone who raised incense in the Old Testament and the earth swallowed them??]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[I see that an ancient Church is for sale in the town where my congregation has a chapel.<br /><br />Parts of it date back to 1078 AD. It is a Grade II* listed building. <br /><br />I am wondering if anyone has experience of finding grants to purchase and renovate such old buildings and use them for Orthodox worship. <br /><br />The purchase price is £150,000 but I am sure it would need significant funds to put it in good repair and convert it for Orthodox worship, education, cultural and missionary activities.<br /><br />Father Peter]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[<img src="http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-8/1318347/Abona_Armanios.jpg" alt="image" /><br /><br />His early life:<br />At the young age his father died, he became responsible for his family, worked, and struggled a lot for his family and the Lord blessed all his work.<br /><br />At the age of twenty-one he went to El Sourian Monastery known as the Virgin Mary and was admitted to test his desires to becoming a monk in what is called a probationary period. The late Bishop Theophilus, the head of the Monastery at that time, was very selective and picky to all youth seeking to become a monk. After the trial period and on November 4, 1948 he became a monk and was given the name Fr. Armanios El Sourany.<br /><br />Owing to his expertise in the art of printing among the monks, the head of the monastery appointed Father Armanios responsible for all publications issued and promoted him by a priest.<br /><br />His spiritual battle:<br />Fr Armanios order in worship and spiritual battle were simple and humble. <br />* At first he was moving from one place to another in the monastery without any rest for his body.. And most of his time at night he was standing upright praying.<br />* He ate very little and was giving the illusion to all monks that he eats meat and vegetables, which distributed by the monastery when in fact he was feeding the cats of the monastery. .. As often he was found sleeping on a bench next to the tree of St. Abraham El Sourany without any brushing to his body, so much so that once the Anba Theophilus passes by accompanied by another monk and saw Father Armanios asleep, the monk said, what is with him?&nbsp; Anba Theophilus replied: Father Armanios is a mystery to me, his actions puzzle me, I can’t understand. <br />* When one of the monks was speaking to him and demanded him to wear heavy clothes in order to avoid extreme cold, he said: this is a system I have to folloA monk once said, he was often slept on his side and his head held high from the ground, and he had been watching him for a long time in a very distressed way and did not change his position and his head hanging in the air!! <br /><br />He was a Hermit:<br />* One day, His Holiness Pope was traveling abroad, on the day scheduled for his return, some of the monks said to Father Armanios, the Pope will arrive today, he replied: &quot;But the plane will be delayed two hours. Later the monks learned that the plane of Pope had been delayed two hours already. <br />* One time he was seen at of St. Paula monastery in the Red sea. In this monastery there is a machine for generating electricity, an engineer used to come for maintenance and went to a room located by the machine and when he opened the door found a monk in the room praying so he closed the door, but strangely after a period came again, opened the door and found the same monk and repeated this many times. In the end, he asked who are you? He replied: I am Fr. Armanios .. He went to tell the father in charge of the machine about father Armanios so the father in charge told the engineer once you find him again closed the door and tell me right away .. On the following day when the engineer opened room, he was surprised by this strange monk so he went to call the monk in charge, strangely they did not find anyone when they opened the door. After departure of Father Armanios, his picture was distributed to many monasteries, and his image delivered to the monks the monastery of St. Paula when the engineer confirmed it was him and told the monks of the monastery then they searched in all monasteries, if there is another a monk named Armanios, they couldn’t find anyone else with this name in any another monastery just to be sure that this was Fr Armanios<br />* One of the brothers wanted to engage in the priesthood so he went to Fr Armanios to enjoy his blessing and advice then Fr. Armanios asked him: Where are you from? Replied the monk accompanying him who was in charge of his service: Brother of Cairo, O Father, Father, said Fr. Armanios: No, of Alexandria, the priest replied: Father Armanios how did you know I am from Alexandria? In fact, I live in the city of Cairo, but I already live in Alexandria.<br /><br />Departure:<br />When the disease obliged him to go to Cairo for treatment, he stayed at a house of a loved one; he chooses to sleep in a small room in the loft.<br /><br />On 13 March, 1995 when God wanted to relieve him of our fatigued and transmit world to eternal rest, Father Armanios went into a deep coma as a result of illness, during which the monks of the monastery saw St. Mary and Anba Theophilus had come to carry his pure spirit.. Gathered monks took him with hymns to the church headed by Bishop Mattheos and some Bishops and after the prayer, they carried him to El Altafos (burial monks) and there buried him with honor and reverence.<br /><br />His blessings and prayers be with us all<br />]]></description>
