He loved her because of her eyes so she poked them out and handed them to the messenger in a box to present before the emperor. This made the emperor furious and stopped looking for her. meanwhile the nuns at the convent prayed and, during the liturgy, God restored her eyes.

It's a beautiful story that I've been thinking a lot about for some reason... thing is though, I don't know this saint's name.
I was recently listening to CYC where there was a segment with HE Metropolitan Bishoy. In speaking about the differences between us and the Eastern Orthodox he mentioned. One was Christologocial terms and the second was the deification of man (I think this is theosis).

So later on in the day I was browsing the internet and found that His Eminence wrote a book against the Davinci Code called "The Real Holy Grail", so I went to his site to see if it was posted there, and found this instead : http://www.metroplit-bishoy.org/files/deificationEng.doc

I always thought theosis was orthodox. Perhaps, I'm misunderstanding. The way its spoken of in the document seems to be speaking of it in a different concept than what the Eastern Orthodox (and what I thought we) believe. I know that Fr. Matthew the Poor (Matta el-Meskeen) said that in theosis we hypostatically unite with God which isn't taught by the Eastern Orthodox (they say the unification is with the energies of God).

Is it possible that this is directed towards the theosis taught by Fr. Matthew the Poor, and not that of Eastern Orthodoxy. I know there are patristics that seem to support the union with the energies of God. Is it possible that this is a misunderstanding on the side of His Eminence probably because of the heretical teaching on it of Fr. Matthew the Poor? Or am I misunderstanding all of this and the deification of man is different than theosis, and all His Eminence speaks against is the heretical teaching of being hypostatically united with God?

please pray for my weak self

Hello, Could someone kindly tell me:

If a coptic christian is living in a country where there are no Coptic Churches, is he or she allowed to have communion in the Catholic Church, only for the period when they are working in that country?

Please also bear in mind, when answering, that it may be too costly or impractical for this person to travel to a place where there is a Coptic Church on a regular basis; it may even be impractical on any basis also.

What is their position in front of the Church? Does the CoC consider them ex-communicated? Are they heretics? If their faith is just Orthodox, and they "need" to have the Holy Communion, then is this allowed for such situations? The Catholics do accept us in their Church, but we do not acknowledge their baptism.

I think it is really dangerous to not have communion for a long period of time, and given that we do consider that the Body of Christ is in the Eucharist in the Catholic Church, then is this case permissible for a Coptic Christian?

The same for repentance. If a Coptic Christian lives in a place where he or she is not visited by any Coptic priest, can they confess to a Catholic Priest? Although our Churches are divided, do we still acknowledge their priesthood?

Thanks

I understand the benefits of fasting, etc...

However, someone asked me, 'Why do we have to be fasting in order to take communion?' Fasting here refers to the fast of Nativity or Great Lent or any fast occurring on a day we take communion. So, 'Why are we obligated to fast to take communion when fasting is a decision for you to focus on your relationship with God?' Is it because it sounds hypocritical that you would say I want to take communion and be with God through communion, but would not be willing to fast to focus on your relationship with God? If so, what if the person 'believes' they don't have the strength to fast the whole length of time, but still wouldn't want to be forbidden from the blessing of communion as they truly believe in its mystery?

GB
John

I was reading about him in a book, and although it highlighted his many achievements and his promotion of Christianity, it also mentioned his less than worthy deeds [some of which, I guess were necessary due to his position as Emperor.] Aside from that, his involvement with Christianity [Post Nicea] seemed to be sympathetic towards Arius' cause, probably due to his close friendship with Eusebius of Nicodemia [who was at one point a strong Arian.] He was even responsible for the first exile of Pope Athansius.

So why does the Church consider him a saint?

I'm aware that the only reason the Church allows for anyone to remarry is in the case of adultery.

However, according to this news report, it appears that there is a situation where a woman's husband left her (out of adultary) yet she was unable to remarry simply because she couldn't prove that her husband had in fact committed adultery.

http://bikyamasr.com/wordpress/?p=22145

Is proof required that your spouse has committed adultery in order to re-marry?

Also, can someone explain to me the implications of the latest news on the re-marriage issue?

http://www.almasryalyoum.com/en/news/egyptian-court-upholds-verdict-allowing-divorced-copts-remarry

What does this mean exactly? Is the state forcing the Church to allow re-marriages for reasons other than adultary? or is it only for reasons of adultery where adultery cannot be "proven" but assumed.

Thanks
