Hi guys! how r all of you. I haven't posted in quite a bit which is a relieve for most of you...with the constant headaches I'm so good at providing. But I found this arabic letter in the "Paradise of monks" and I tried translating it...I hope i did an ok job and I hope u all benefit from it.

Do You still Question My Love?

My Child:
With eternal love I have loved you, thus, I have protected you from many evil temptations that occupied you, and I had compassion upon you by My blessing and choice. I have granted you and given you wisdom, that guided you in intense situations, I took care of your matters, and granted you overwhelming happiness. I strengthened you when you were weak, and from many tribulations I have delivered you. I taught you, I have advised you, and still in front of Me, this is nothing. So do not thank Me for it, for My love demands that I do this for your sake.
You rejected me, swore at me, lied to me, thought evil against me, denied me in front of people, belittled Me in the eyes of My enemies. I was obedient in your sight, Yet you caused Me misery. You left My ways, you resisted Me, and made Me bare what I did not want from you. You made my sadness unutterable, and embarrassed Me in numerous situations. All this I will not count nor consider, for you did it out of ignorance and in unbelief.
I came down from My Kingdom taking the form of a servant, and became like man, and was found in Divinity. Like man, became hungry and could not find that which would fill me, when from Me came all the blessings. I was thirsty, and could not find the one to give Me drink, even though I created the seas. No place to lay My head, though I have created holes for foxes and the air for the birds.
I was saddened for you, and wept much for you, I suffered bitterly for your sake. And what did I get in the end? I was captured, and falsely accused, even though I committed no evil, and in My mouth no lie could be found.
They slapped Me, and with lashes torn at My body, and even My hair they grabbed with violence. They ripped My garment and mocked Me. They forced a crown of thorns on My head. They bowed to Me in mockery, they spit on My face and with a rod they hit Me on the head, till the thorns dug deep within my skull. AND ON THE WOOD OF SHAME THREW ME. They nailed My hands and My feet and lifted Me for all to see. And I was as a lamb who was slaughtered. Silent was I in front of all, and opened My mouth not as if I was cut out of the world and became like vapour. All My bones were separated. My heart became like a candle, melted among my emotions. They gave Me vinegar to drink, along with its bitter taste. They cursed Me, so I blessed them, and asked for their forgiveness and granted them mercy. All this I endured because I love you. Do you then question My love?
Come close and do not fear, give Me your heart and I will return it to you like new. Give Me your life, so that I may move you from darkness to the light and from death to life. I will make you a child of God and share My inheritance and My Kingdom with you. All this, so that your sadness may become joy, and give you hope, your worries into gains, and your fear into peace. I will put a new hymn in your mouth.
I will carry you, and in the days of hunger feed you. So do not worry or fear tonight, and you shall succeed in your path. You shall not be tormented in the process. And on your side thousands shall fall, and to your right dominions will tremble. FOR I AM WITH YOU. Therefore, I will deliver you, and carry you and bring you into My heart and I will put My left arm under your head, and My right arm will embrace you. I will guard you from him who hates good, and I will return his poison back to him and bring him under your feet. And thus, I shall conclude your life, with righteous days, blessed and joyful. And to My glory I will bring you. By My side you will find richness, and comfort and peace.
Do you still question My love?
Come now and do not reject my invitation this time, for I am waiting for you.
Your Love- Jesus.

I feel like something needs to be said about the use of technology within our churches.

It almost seems like a requirement now that every church when it is being built, they get the Iconostasis put in and then the projectors and white screens right in front of them!!
Why is technology taking over our churches, there are some churches with not one book in them! some churches have a touchscreen on the Altar!!! why?
The Coptic Orthodox Church has been using books since books were invented.. so why the sudden change to the "latest and greatest" within the past few years??
i feel like soon we are going to have recorded liturgies just being played back on the church speakers every sunday. we wont need priests any more.. lol
ok maybe im exaggerating a bit.
but is my church the ONLY church that still uses books and does not have a projector and a white screen???
I think technology is not bad in itself, but it might not be a great help either. Is it really that difficult for churches to purchase liturgy books and Agpias? If they bought all of those books for the whole congregation it would probably cost less than the price of a projector and whitescreen.

does anyone else feel this way? or am i completely crazy?

Nothing for sex addicts. There is no outreach for homosexuals. No drug addiction programs. And the list could go on.

The Protestants have many of these services.
Hi I have an inquiry and I hope I am not being ignorant , if so I'm sorry. Anyways I notice churches spend a lot of money these days on improving church technology and trips. My issue with that is I feel that money would be better spent on the poor specially Egyptians. I've gone to small poor churches in Egypt where the building is disintegrating, the priest and deacons are all wearing ripped and stained tonias. The congregation is poor and donations I'm sure don't come often. Many Copts live in awful conditions in Egypt and need help. Instead I see churches installing new projectors, sound systems, microphones, computers and so on. Even in the churches in Egypt in the high society neighborhoods I see this. Although I know some donations are already made, why not give more. For instance, my church just put in a new sound system, the old one wasn't absolutely perfect but it's not worth a few thousand dollars that could have helped poorer churches in Egypt. My fear is that we our substituting essential needs of the poor for our own luxuries that we could very easily do without.

Matthew 16:15-19

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Matthew 18:18

Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

John 20:21-23

So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

1) My understanding is that the power to confer or to withhold forgiveness is the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Is this correct?

2) Since Jesus told the disciples "whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven", is it correct to say that the disciples also received the keys of the kingdom of heaven, even though Jesus used these words "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven" in Matthew 16 to Peter but not in Matthew 18 to the disciples?

3) When were the keys given to Peter? Jesus says to Peter (in Matthew 16:19) "I will give you the keys", which seems like it can be interpreted to mean He will do so in future?

Were they given to Peter when Jesus said "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” in Matthew 16:19?

Or did Peter receive the keys later with the other disciples in Matthew 18:18?

Or after the Resurrection of Jesus in John 20:21-23

4) When Jesus told the disciples that “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven" in Matthew 18:18?

Did the disciples receive this power at that time or after the Resurrection of Jesus in John 20:21-23

I am constantly told by people in the church on "how to talk to people". That how I speak to others is offensive. Well, a person who I have been speaking with for a while, was an atheist, and finally accepted that God must exist. He became interested in Orthodoxy. I invited him to church and even arranged a meeting with Abouna and told Abouna he was very interested in the Tasbeha and Vespers. Needless to say this man drives a good distance, with high gas prices, and he calls me while I am on the way and says that nobody is there. I called one of the deacons and he says they are at a birthday party and that they wont be there until 7ish(pm). So I am left to either A) Tell this guy the truth or B) Lie to him on behalf of the Church. So I call him and just give a general excuse saying it was my fault and what not. So basically I lied to this man. What does this say about how some of our people speak to non-believers? They dont care? Church is not that important? Nobody, from now on, EVER gets to tell me how to speak to anyone.

I am tired of constantly complaining to people at church about making the church more welcoming to non-believers, and I am shut down. I DO HAVE experience as an atheist and as a protestant I DO KNOW more than Abouna in these areas, that IS a fact. So why am I not listened to? Well the only reason I can think is because nobody actually DOES care. Can anyone tell how enraged I am?!

I dare anyone to post, because I am looking to shred the first smart ass to make a stupid defense of this kind of behavior.

Thanks to the support of some dear Orthodox friends I have been able to set aside a little bit of time to produce the first of a series of videos looking at the Orthodox teaching on the Eucharist from the Scriptures and the Fathers. Each presentation will be about 10 minutes in length and will build up to a comprehensive description of the Orthodox understanding.

I have used Youtube to host it at present and you can see it here on my Orthodox Mission blog..

http://orthodox-mission.blogspot.com/

Do pray for this ministry. I certainly need your prayers, but I also need the support of more Orthodox friends to be able to set aside time to create these videos, and other resources.

God bless

Father Peter

Hi,

I'm trying to find atrocities committed by the Coptic Orthodox Church - yet I cannot find anything.

OK... our priests/bishops aren't perfect, but as far as I know, we were not part of the crusades - we didnt have a military, nor political presence - did we??

Can someone kindly confirm this?

Even during the reign of Saint Constantine, he even himself persecuted our Church by excommunicating our 22nd Patriarch, and unwittingly he gave the Arians a chance to spread their heresies.

For example - one could say the Roman Catholic Vs Protestant wars are atrocities.
The Crusades
The Inquisition..

But where in our history have we done anything like this??

My apologies for this title.. please feel free to change it if you want, but as I said, I cannot find anything. The reason is because the COC has never and will never be involved in politics.

Hello,

How does the OOC view this practice? I would've never guessed that the EO would preserve the body on the altar throughout the weekdays in lent. As Coptic people, we always consume the body entirely after any liturgy. It's such a bizarre practice. Does this present any issues with unity between the EO and the OO?

PK

Hi all,

There is this one deacon that is very respected in my church and that know the rites well.
During, the Incense Circuit, he only holds the cross.
In this link, this is said to be O.K, a little indirectly.

... on the opposite side of the altar is the deacon who holds the cross and responds.

I assume this is correct !?!
He also hold the cross and stands outside the altar when he responds (not only when he responds)
He is never in the altar unless abouna is with him. I asked him once he said, no deacon can be in the altar without abouna.
Is this proper rites?
Also, I know that there are continual changes/updates in something called the "magma7".
Where can I inform myself about these changes?
God bless, Pray for me,

Cyril
