The recent ruling of the Supreme Administrative Court applies to anyone who was originally registered as 'Christian' but whose registration was later changed to 'Muslim' (whether voluntarily or not). More than 2,500 people were part of the application to the court. They included a Christian mother, Kamilia, for whom the ruling means the successful end to a long legal fight to change her twin sons' registration back to 'Christian'. Their registration had been changed to 'Muslim' by their father when their parents divorced. Twins Andrew and Mario have now been issued with new ID cards which state they are 'Christian'. The boys' incorrect registration as 'Muslims' had caused them difficulties at school: in 2008, they were held back a year after refusing to take an exam in Islamic studies.

(Sources: Assist News Service, CLAAS, Middle East Concern)

protect political and religious rights in Egypt.

Today, 10/9/11, the Egyptian Army brutally attacked a peaceful protest in Cairo, Egypt, killing at least 24 civilians and injuring at least 300. In one case, a military tank ran over a protester's head, smashing it to pieces. Under the rule of Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), 12,000 Egyptians were sentenced to military court since last January. During Mubarak's rule, only 500 Egyptians were sentenced by military court. More churches were burned and the perpetrators un-sentenced under this military rule. Every year, the US government gives $1.3 billion to SCAF. US tax dollars are being used to fund a ruling army that is killing and oppressing the citizens of its own country. Use your influence and stand with the Egyptian people, not their oppressive military government

https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/protect-political-and-religious-rights-egypt/BxTnvvdj?utm_source=wh.gov&utm_medium=shorturl&utm_campaign=shorturl

Please share with friends and family members.
Hi guys,

I hope that this does not turn into a debate, and I hope that I personally don't make into such (I am a very argumentative person... Forgive me)

I feel (not know but feel) that within the Coptic Church in the land of immigration (as i personally have experienced it0 has lost a great sense of discipleship with the youth. I have begun to feel that the relationship between the fathers of confession and their children is becoming more of a work based relationship. Not much follow up exists on the problems. As Orthodox Christians, discipleship is important, as not only do we learn by seeing, but we often need someone to take a genuine interest in our deep spiritual life. I have begun to feel that priests are treateting every youth on the basis that all they want is to live a fun filled life, away from the church, and that confession is just another thing that must be done, but that there is little accommodation for those who want deep spirituality, and learning. I personally want a Spiritual father who is mainly full of the following:

1) Deep personal and Orthodox Spirituality. By this I mean that they understand the faith as revealed by the apostles and the gospels. Also, a deep prayer life, where they are so full of God's spirit that they can guide by his power. While i understand that their spiritualtiy does not concern me, it would be a plus to almost "feed" off their spirituality.

2) Someone who cares and understands me. I dont want to go list my sins, and then walk away with nothing more than an absolution. I want deep guidance that is so special. Not just the practical things, but the deep ideas of the orthdoox church.

Basically, I want to grow. If i cannot find this with my father now, should i ask them to change their method for me, should i switch to a different father, and if i switch, how do i know how they are.

I lack spirituality, and i want a SPIRITUAL FATHER. ie. someone who is spiritual and someone who is a father.

Looking to hear your thoughts on all of this.

-ReturnOrthodoxy

Hey brothers and sisters!

I have a few questions regarding what monks wear. . .

1) When did the clothing become formalized?

2) Did they ever wear a white 'faragia', instead of black?

3) Is it true that the wearing the 'kolonsowa' is a modern practice initiated by HH Pope Shenouda III which was adopted from the Syrians? (I heard that no monks in Egypt used to wear this)

--- Any sources would be edifying as well.

Thank you in advance.

Hey guys the second episode of Concerned Copts is up and it is centered around the very important topic of mental health. A trained counselor and social worker discusses the social and cultural stigmas of seeing a therapist, the causes, symptoms and coping mechanism of anxiety and panic attacks. This will be the first episode of (we hope) many to come on this topic as it is really important, we are planning to have episodes that are more focused on different types of mental illness so I guess this episode could be seen as an introduction into this subject. We hope you enjoy and most of all get something out of it.

Face book Page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Concerned-Copts/241012779271529

Podcast Page: http://soundcloud.com/concernedcopts/concerned-copts

Cy
