I know we reject this, but how about these quotations, especially the first one:

Jerome, translator of the Latin Catholic Bible (347-420) on Romans 10:3: “God justifies by faith alone.” (Deus ex sola fide justificat).[Jerome. Epistolam Ad Romanos. Caput X, v. 3, PL 30:692D]

Chrysostom (349-407): For Scripture says that faith has saved us. Put better: Since God willed it, faith has saved us. Now in what case, tell me, does faith save without itself doing anything at all? Faith’s workings themselves are a gift of God, lest anyone should boast. What then is Paul saying? Not that God has forbidden works but that he has forbidden us to be justified by works. No one, Paul says, is justified by works, precisely in order that the grace and benevolence of God may become apparent.[Chrysostom. Homily on Ephesians. 4.2.9.]

Augustine (354-430): If Abraham was not justified by works, how was he justified? . . . Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness (Rom. 4:3; Gen. 15:6). Abraham, then, was justified by faith. Paul and James do not contradict each other: good works follow justification.

I was having trouble because I do not know Coptic grammar, I got some help from a few people in getting other sources to cross reference and compare what I had....AND it helped me with chapter and verse placement.
I have two new books coming out very soon. The first one, which is almost finished, is a booklet entitled "What they say about us." Which shows what protestants have said concerning the Coptic Church and what they plan(ned) on doing to the church. I hope to get some of the clergy like Abouna Peter Farrington to do some commentary on the actual quotes. If I cannot get this then I will publish what I have as a 27 pg booklet.

The second work is an actual book, which is probably going to be longer than my usual 100 pg limit. As usual it deals with defending the church. I heavily rely on the writings of the church fathers, and I do not want to give too much away right now, but I weave my way from the apostolic fathers through the ante nicene fathers. Needless to say, I think you all will enjoy both of these very much. In fact, when I am done with this work, I may ask you all here to name the book for me.
Hi,

There's something really bugging here that I do not understand.

After the Palm Sunday Service, we are prayed on the prayer of the dead. Its a funeral. In fact, the prayer is called "Al Ginaza" (the Funeral).

The priest today explained it (again!) "We will pray on you the prayer of the departed, so if anyone passes away during Holy Week, we just bury them so we can focus on the passion of Christ during this week".

OK.. so they prayed on us the prayer of the dead. They prayed on us this prayer of the dead last year.. is there a need to pray it again on us again the year after???

In fact, is there a reason to even bring our coffins in to Church to pray on it? We just had loads of funeral prayers prayed on us during our lifetime. The day we DO die, we've already gone through the funeral prayers. Why do it again??

For example: a priest or a bishop who has died at an old age, say 90 years of age - what's the point of praying on him the prayer of the departed AGAIN during his funeral? He's already had it prayed on him 90 times during his lifetime through the Passion Week Process.

Thanks

Then, coming out of my own small Coptic shell (which happened fairly quickly and earlier than my peers), I also realized quickly that what we are doing actually seems to be very disrespectful.

We are weaving baskets and shapes of donkeys and lanterns only to bring them home to enjoy for the one day....but at the expense of ignoring the deacon's call to "bow your heads to the Lord" when the Actual Body of Christ is on the altar before us.

My teta, being a wise woman she is, had the tradition of weaving all her palms on Saturday evening and simply bringing one or two palms with her to church on Sunday morning but not actually weaving them there, so that she could pay attention and participate in the liturgy as should be done.

My question is: is this weaving business during the liturgy a tradition of the Coptic church or is it just one of those things which have slipped through the cracks like so many other things? (ie. when the 'deacons' run in and out of the altar through the main door reserved solely for priests and full deacons).

I believe as the Coptic Church does about the nature of Christ. As I was thinking about Christs nature and the virgin birth I thought of another question that wanted to hear others thoughts.

Why is Adam called the father of sin if Eve was the first to sin? Was it because Adam was born with the sinful nature or was just because he was the first man or was Adam even born with a sinful nature?

What's next for us?

The revolution of a minority has been hijacked by a majority that I'm pretty sure (whether they were Christian or Muslim) didn't give their lives to see run Egypt.

The departure of His Holiness comes at a bleak time for us.

The imam, Wagdi Ghoneim released a scathing attack on his holiness just after the news of His passing away emerged. I cannot repeat what was said, it is VERY upsetting - but what worries me is the audacity with which Ghoneim could spew out such hateful comments - as if now he is immune from any repercussions given the nature of our Islamized parliament.

The salafists walked out of parliament during a 1 minute silence in respect for our Pope.

Where does this leave us?

Egypt is suffering financially, and all that is bothering the people's assembly and their ministers is our religion? That's the priority for them?

The west have sold their own religion, and its pretty hard right now for them even to be Christians in a Christian denominated country. Where is "home" for us?

I could have called Egypt "my home" when people like Wagdi Ghoniem were a minority. But check him out on FB - despite attacking our pontiff, he still has 125,000 likes.

What's next for us?? Where do we go?

I work with a muslim guy who didn't even want to tell me he is sorry the passing away of our pontiff because he hates him.

What must it be like in Egypt??

I know this might sound random, but:
Is it an Orthodox concept to dilute holy water with normal water, so as to increase the amount, but not decrease the "holiness".
When I say holy water, I mean that which comes from the unction of the sick, the liturgy of the water, and, I guess, the liturgy.

I am asking about this topic not seeking arguments, but knowledge. Knowledge that I think I will regret knowing, but once I started reading I could not stop... I am, by no mean, as educated as any of you guys, that is why I am asking.

Anyways, without any farther delay, here is my question: How "Orthodox" is our Church/church? I have been reading lately about the "corrupt" popes of our church, (It is a light reading from unreliable sources, but I do not have any better) about Fr. Matta el mesken, about Max Misheal, about our "Deconate" rank, and many other seemingly imperfections. Maybe there is even more that I do not know of. I grew up with an apparently false knowledge that our church has been perfectly orthodox over the years under the protection of the Holy Spirit, but how? How are we under the protection of the Holy spirit and we have "corrupt popes" and all of those seemingly imperfections?

Again, I am as worthless as a rat compared to you guys. I am not asking for argument, but of knowledge. Thank You.
