[Posted on behalf of Father Peter Farrington]

We now have over 680 registered students from 45 different countries. Will you help us reach our new launch target of 750? Please consider encouraging one or two of your friends and family to consider taking this course with you.

The first four units of the Discovering Orthodoxy Online Catechesis are being prepared ready for the launch of the programme on the 1st January 2013. We are having to build a new website to manage your use of the Catechesis materials, and we hope that you will find it easy to use.

We would like to announce a short introductory video which has just been published. It contains a description of the project by Father Peter Farrington, and a reflection on the value and importance of catechesis by His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim. You can view the video at:

The development of this extensive range of learning materials does require support. First of all we need your regular prayers for all of those involved in producing these materials, and also for those who will be using them.

But we do also need regular sponsorship to give us the resources to develop this project in a professional manner. If you are willing and able to make a small regular monthly donation, or even a one off donation, then your support will be gratefully received and greatly appreciated.

This link will take you to a page where you can make either a one off donation, or subscribe to provide a regular small monthly donation.

http://www.lsocs.co.uk/orthodox_catechesis.php

May God bless your participation in this course

Father Peter Farrington
Director of Studies
London School of Orthodox Christian Studies

Hey Guys,
I heard a buch of stuff like the church is becoming protestant and such speak from too many people,
and I am honestly fed up! It is a fact, but the only thing happening is stating a fact!
Where is the line? Where is the clear line in which we can differenciate protestanism creeping within
orthodoxy? Let's say for communion songs, where is the line to draw?
What't the difference between a song like Father God, and Our God is an awesome God or something more
like My Coptic Chuch, and something else?
I agree the church might be becoming more and more protestant, but how exactly, and how do we avoid it from
becoming graver?
PLEASE, do not turn this thread into a Protestanism VS. Orthodoxy debate!
Thanks for your answers, FirstChurch

It is white in colour, with extensive ornamental embroidery. It is wider than its Byzantine counterpart, wrapped over the head over the monastic Kouklion, then crossed from the front over the chest, wrapped again from the back, crossed over the back by the waist level, then over the shoulders, then coming straight down, tucked under the frontal (over the chest) crossed wrapping. It is called a Ballin, and it is almost the double the length of the Byzantine Omophor.
[edit]

So, I watched the ceremony of giving the Holy Eskeem to His Holiness. Nevertheless, I am confused. I remember reading somewhere that a diocesan bishop cannot keep up with the requirements of the Holy Eskeem since he will be busy with the service and problems of his diocese. How much more does this ring true for our upcoming Pope?! Or is this just something honorary given to him because he will be Pope?

We will be holding a service of Orthodox evening prayers on Monday, 8th October at 6:30 pm at St Andrews, Clewer, Mill Lane, Windsor, SL4 5JH.

Thanks to the generosity of the Revd. Louise Brown we have been able to make use of the beautiful and ancient Church of St Andrew, Clewer, said to have been used by William the Conqueror himself.

We will be organising an evening service of Orthodox evening prayers once a month, and will be returning to St Andrews on the 12th November.

The service will consist of the prayers from the Coptic Orthodox Daily Office, or Agpeya, with a short talk on a spiritual topic, followed by refreshments.

Members of Orthodox Churches, and of all other Christian traditions and none are warmly invited to join with us on this occasion.

If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact us

Father Peter Farrington
St Andrews Orthodox Mission, Windsor

The baptism of desire doctrine is a Roman Catholic Dogma which states that catachumens who die, having not reached baptism, but having wanted to be baptized, can be saved. It is similar to the concept of "baptism of blood."

I recently read that this dogma is accepted by the Eastern Orthodox Church. Not sure if thats true.

Has anyone heard the Coptic Church's view?
