Anyone know if priests have job contracts with the church they serve?

Forgive me for raising this topic which may seem controversial, but is priest job security in the hands/mercy of higher church authorities? Is there due process if a priest is convicted of heresy/ false teaching/false advice? Who has higher authority, the church congregation or the church authorities (bishops, pope)?

I know there is separation of church and state, and the law of the church is the only one that should be applicable, so is it against the church for the priest to have a contract?

The only reason I decided to post this on a public coptic forum is because I can't find the answers in my immediate network, and I want to know because I am not certain that servants of God are protected from political powers stemming from higher religious authorities (the job of the priest seems like it isn't protected like any other profession who has a contract that protects them from wrongful termination).

Any insight from our coptic lawyers would be nice.

Thanks and forgive me.

Khristos Anesti dear tasebha folk.

I have so many questions for you.

a) Why did Christ tell Mary Magdalene: "Do not touch me" after He appeared to her in the garden, the morning of His Glorious Resurrection?

What was the problem with touching Him? St Thomas even put his finger on Christ's wound.

b) Then He tells her: I am going to "My God and Your God, my Father and Your Father". I think when He says "to my God" - its not as a term of worship, but it is an affirmation of His Sonship - i.e. that He is from God. Can anyone confirm this? Or am i totally wrong?

c) Why does he ask the Father to "forgive them" whilst He's on the cross? Surely He could forgive them? My 2 cents is that He intercedes for us to the Father, and this is just another example of that - or am I mistaken?

Thanks

My priest told me that it was forbidden to confess DURING Holy Week.

That's really odd because there's the liturgy tomorrow and being prepared for it, through confession, is quite important.

If I'm not mistaken, the Homily on this day is by Saint John Chrysostom who emphasises the importance of being prepared to take this sacrament, and of "slothfullness" concerning receiving the Holy Communion.

This is remarkable that the Church forbids confession during Holy Week.

May I just ask why - especially if its for preparation for Holy Communion, I'm truly baffled.

By: Fr Samaan El Souriany

St Shenouda Monastery, with the Kind permission of the translators and after a long time being out of print, has reprinted “The Hermit Fathers”. If you are interested in buying copies for your bookshop or youth group please email us pimonakhos@copticmail.com. An excerpt which is made out of, The Table of contents, and the lives of two of those great saints can be seen here as PDF.

The Hermit Fathers is an account of the virtuous asceticism and admirable ways of life of the holy and blessed wilderness fathers. They are meant to inspire and instruct those who want to imitate their heavenly lives, so that they may make progress on the way that leads to the kingdom of heaven. The holy fathers who were the initiators and masters of the blessed monastic way of life, being entirely on fire with divine and heavenly love and counting as nothing at all that men hold to be beautiful and estimable, trained themselves on earth to do nothing whatsoever out of vainglory. They hid themselves away, and by their supreme humility in keeping most of their good works hidden, they made progress on the way that leads to God. Moreover, no one has been able to describe their virtuous lives for us in detail, for those who have taken the greatest pains in this matter have only committed to writing a few fragments of their more admirable deeds and words. In this book you will find twenty eight examples of the lives of those Holy men and women which are sweeter than honey and honeycomb.

The price of the book is

1-49 Copies AUD $ 8.00 Each + Shipping
50 and over AUD $ 6.00 Each + Shipping

             Title: The Hermit Fathers
         Author: Fr Samaan El Souriany
        Binding: Perfect Bound
     Trim Size: 215mm x 140 mm
No of Pages: 192 Pages
         Weight: 250 g

Tawadros is an arabized deviation of Theororus, just as Gawargios is an arabized deviation of Georgios. Tawadros should be Theodorus just as Gawargios should be Georgios.

As Coptic Orthodoxy spreads throughout the world, the name of Theodorus II will facilitate affininity with previous Orthodox Patriarchs, will be easier to remember among the Other Orthodox Patriarchates, both Eastern and Oriental, and will be easier to pronounce for all Orthodox along with English speakers.

His Holiness is already called by the name Theodoros II on Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Coptic_Popes

So in these two amazing photos of HH, we see two possible names...On his black bornos, there is a Tav, assuming for Tawadros. But on his festive bornos, you see Theeta's, assuming for Theodoros. This is probably a mistake right? Or is he being recognized as both?

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong category, I couldn't decide which category would best fit this.

Anyway there are so far two of HH Pope Shenouda's sermons that have English captions (both done by CYC):
On Doubt
Hidden and Manifested Sins

The translations aren't always the best, but they can almost always be understood. May God Bless the work done by CYC.

I will also try to post the links to the sermons as they come out.

I was reading Joshua Ch. 6 and came upon this verse, "Then Joshua charged them at that time, saying, 'Cursed be the man before the Lord who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates.'” Why did Joshua say that? I thought that the people of Israel took over Jericho by that time. Was not that the time to rebuild the city?
