Hymns Discussion / Re: 7&4
« on: December 01, 2012, 10:29:52 PM »
Bump. So to check, next Sunday (12/9) ensha allah will be treated as if it is the first week of Kiahk (ie. we do the Kiahk reading, doxologies, and 7&4 on Saturday)? Is this correct?

Coptic Orthodox Church / Re: Coptic Icons for printing
« on: November 19, 2012, 09:12:36 PM »
I was in the same boat. I just google searched some of the particular icons I liked (like Pantocrator from St. Anthony's monastery in Egypt) and limited the search to High res pictures. I printed them off at Ritz camera for a good deal (search online for coupons). I was worried that the person at the counter may refuse to print them if they were from online, but she didn't say anything.

Haha I wondered this too! Though it does build up the eagerness for those 4 weeks of Kiahk.

Personal Issues / Re: Issue
« on: November 10, 2012, 10:59:53 PM »"WE truly love God and keep His commandments if we restrain ourselves from our pleasures. For he who still abandons himself to unlawful desires certainly does not love God, since he contradicts Him in his intentions... Therefore, he loves God truly, whose mind is not conquered by consent to evil delight. For the more one takes pleasure in lower things, the more he is separated from heavenly love." ~ St. John Chrysostom

Faith Issues / Re: Is it true that Pope Shenouda Said...
« on: November 04, 2012, 09:54:19 PM »Wow, that is intersting because there was a Roman Catholic prophecy which said that Pope Benedict would be the last Catholic pope.
It seems a lot of people are saying the world is going to end in the next few years.
I heard this too! Also, about the Coptic Door of the Prophecy indicating we are in the last era. Lord have mercy.

Personal Issues / Re: Career Choice/FOC Adivce

This is my first year in med school. I was very hesitant about going in at first, worried about a lot of things; would I be grossed out? what if I hate it? what if I am only doing it because it is part of Egyptian culture?
And let me tell you, even after a few months, it has already been so fulfilling. It is of course a tremendous amount of work, but it is so worthwhile in the sense that you truly feel you are using your God given talents to directly benefit the people around you, who all entrust you with what is most precious to them. You also see how amazing God created man and how elegantly everything works together.
The medical field is wide enough that it is very likely you will find some field you are interested in. And until God's kingdom comes (and all illness is wiped away), there will be a universal need for doctors.
It will of course be a long and tiring journey, and you have to expect that, but you will reap tremendous fruit.
That is my bias, perhaps others can comment on their experiences.
God bless you and make His will clear.

Personal Issues / Re: violent vidoegames???
« on: October 22, 2012, 09:16:54 AM »
Speaking from personal experience, as you mature in your spiritual life, grow closer to God, and enter the real world, you will have enough adventure, battles, and fulfillment in your real life that you will lose interest in video games.
I would encourage now to keep it in moderation. Only on the weekends is a good plan, so that it does not affect on your school work or studies. If you notice certain video games are causing you to be more violent or elicit lust or temptations, then I would recommend cutting those specific games off entirely, and find something else to busy your time with.
