Personal Issues / Re: How do you know you're on the right track?
« on: April 19, 2013, 12:11:39 PM »How do you know if the career you're pursuing is what God wants for you?
That's the wrong mentality my friend. God's will is not just one specific job that is meant for you, or one specific place to live. No. God's will is like a field. As long as your life is within this field, then you are doing God's will. God will not care much about what career you choose, as long as it is an honest work, and you are faithful in completing your work.

Faith Issues / Re: Science vs. faith
« on: April 04, 2013, 08:49:46 AM »
My priest (who is a great theologian) once said the blind faith without proving it to yourself is ignorance. Our faith makes sense! Love your enemies is such a bold statement. It goes against all the laws of earth, but it is the law of the Kingdom of God. Our faith does not contradict science. Our faith is not just some idea that came up and we thought it was good so we went with it, it's a living breathing organism. It's called the Church. "The whole universe was created for the Church. " (I believe that's a quote from St. Ignatius, but please correct me if I'm wrong.)

Random Issues / Re: Tips And Resources For Improving Modern Standard Arabic
« on: March 30, 2013, 07:43:22 PM »
I taught myself Arabic as well and someone told me about this website: http://www.madinaharabic.com/index.html and choose the Free Arabic Course.
I think its a very good and helpful tool for learning how to read and for grammar as well. Although some of the vocabulary refers to mosques, Islamic vocabulary is unavoidable when learning Arabic. So it's a great resource and will definitely help you learn.
Good luck!

Coptic Orthodox Church / Re: His Holiness should be called Theodorus II
« on: March 28, 2013, 08:48:09 PM »If he went to Japan they would NOT translate his name into the Japanese equivalent.
The name of the Bishop of Rome or Constantinople Patriarch is translated at local equivalent
For example, in Serbia we call todays Bishop of Rome Фрањо, and Constantinople Patriarch we call Вартоломеј.
Hmmm interesting... I'll keep calling him Tawadros though. I think because our church has a large attachment to Egypt itself and even the Arabic language, that any other name like Theodore or Theodoros won't be accepted by the people. It might just be a matter of culture.

This thread needs to die lol.. He was ordained as Tawadros, therefore everywhere in the world he should be called Tawadros. If he went to Japan they would NOT translate his name into the Japanese equivalent.
His name is Tawadros.
End of story.

« on: March 24, 2013, 07:52:53 PM »Thank you Minasoliman.
Today Malankara Church (Baselios Mar Thomas Paulose II) on their Youtube channel posted:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu_KBpiSMFU
Palm Sunday celebration
Does some Oriental Orthodox Churches celebrates Easter according to new Calendar?!
As far as I know, the Malankara Church also celebrates the Nativity on Dec 25, so they seem to be following the modern calendar used by Catholics.
This is off topic: To be quite honest, the Catholics and Orthodox MUST unite major Feasts. I think it's essential for Church unity and probably the first step to something greater. I believe Pope Tawadros and Pope Francis are both very humble people, so I hope they can work something out.
P.S. The Orthodox calendar is better

« on: March 12, 2013, 09:14:03 PM »Thanks Guys
do you guys loose a lot of weight in the process ?
55 days without proteins or vitamin D sounds very hard
Any weight, protein, and vitamin D lost during the fast is definitely regained during the Holy 50 Days
. The Holy 50 days begin from the Feast of the Resurrection of Our Lord until the Feast of Pentecost. Fasting during this period is strictly prohibited because it is a period of joy and even the hymns are sung in the "festive tune".

« on: March 10, 2013, 11:58:00 PM »So in these 55 days you have to stay vegan ? So can you eat meat after 12 PM or 3 PM and before 12 AM ?
For the whole 55 days of Great Lent we abstain from eating from the time we sleep until a certain time in the evening. And once we decide to eat, we eat only vegan (no meat, no dairy). The time to break your fast is determined by your priest and depends on some factors such as age, situation, etc, so everyone is different.
The purpose of the Great Lent is to discipline your body not to focus on food for ability and energy, but to focus and rely on God, the Creator and Giver of Life.
