i didn't find it in the books, and the churches tend to put pictures on the screen at this time, so i don't know what the words are.
could u pls put a link to the words? (ideally coptic but english would be good too)

thanks everyone and...

Coptic Orthodox Church / saint makarius
« on: April 04, 2013, 03:13:30 PM »
hi, guys,
it's the feast of saint makarius tomorrow!
 :D

please celebrate by posting your favourite bits from saint makarius' homilies or stories about saint makarius.

to start you off, i will explain that 'makarius' means blessed or happy.
it is the word in the original greek in matthew 5 where it says 'blessed are the poor in spirit' etc. (toba in arabic)

Coptic Orthodox Church / our dear departed baba shenouda
« on: March 17, 2013, 01:41:33 PM »
i'm sure many of us remember exactly what we were doing when we heard the news 1 year ago today.

may God repose him in the paradise of joy.

i imagine him getting a big hug from saint matthias, who was busy enjoying his feast day (i think they enjoy these days!) as they can now celebrate together.
 :)

pray for us, our dear and much missed pope shenouda 3rd.

Faith Issues / how Christian priesthood was handed down from the apostles
« on: November 18, 2012, 05:09:43 PM »
hi, everyone, i got stuck on this question from a protestant friend.
he want's to know how the 'church leaders' from the Bible turned into the 'priests' of the orthodox church.
i know that they were priests to start with, and that they were not like jewish priests (because Jesus is our High Priest) and that it's something to do with tradition being handed down, but can someone give me a better answer?

thanks, i would be very grateful.
and may the Lord preserve the life of our new shepherd, patriarch tawadros 2nd, and his friend patriarch theodore 2nd, for many years and peaceful times.

Coptic Orthodox Church / FASTING!
« on: September 30, 2012, 04:18:35 PM »
hey, everyone,
remember it's fasting for 3 days from tomorrow (monday 1st october), like the lentern fast (som il kibeer), so vegan.
if u can, postpone breakfast till later in the day, and please pray for the group who are producing a shorter list for who could be the next patriarch.

if u are very young, very old or have medical issues and can't fast from food, then please take half an hour from tv / computer / whatever else usually distracts you and pray for our church at this very important time.

this is not the time for discussing things (that was the last few months), but the time to pray and entreat God to have mercy on us and reply to us according to His mercy and not according to our sins.

if u join the fast late, don't panic, just fast! God receives the sincere prayer and our acts of worship and of showing mercy to others.

كرحمتك يا رب و ليسة كخطيانا

Hymns Discussion / axios coptic lyrics for archangel michael?
« on: September 16, 2012, 03:46:44 PM »
hi dear brothers and sisters,
can anyone post for me the coptic lyrics for the axios (worthy) song of the archangel michael?

it's the one that uses the words 'archangel' and 'heaven' (mikhail...archiangelos...nifee owi) and is sung in churches dedicated to him. i can't find it on the hymns lyrics site.

i have half the song going around my head repeatedly, please help!

Hymns Discussion / communion hymns, which ones?
« on: August 23, 2012, 06:02:30 PM »
ok, so i failed to derail the 'glorifications' topic,
(sorry for asking question there)
so i will ask here:

could anyone give me a list (send p.m. if you like) of all of the hymns / songs that are appropriate for Holy Communion?
eg. particularly like 'from all nations', is this mazboot?
i would like to compile a list of communion hymns so that i can learn them (the easy ones), and especially those that are already translated into english.

also please tell me your sources for this. i have asked friends in the past about this, but they have had difficulty answering this question.
sorry if it's a hard question!

quick question: anyone know why we commemorated the same saints yesterday (thursday) and on tuesday? (according to the synaxarium on this site?)
i think i wished my friend a blessed feast of saint macarius 2 days early!

Coptic Orthodox Church / a stranger like my fathers
« on: March 25, 2012, 06:37:47 AM »
today's vespers psalm is beautifully discussed in a poem by our dearly loved baba shenouda:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg_2X9GG8JQ&feature=youtu.be

i found the link on another website and the reading for today's vespers is here:
(from this site)
Psalm 39:12
Hear my prayer, O LORD,
And give ear to my cry;
Do not be silent at my tears;
For I am a stranger with You,
A sojourner, as all my fathers were.

may our Lord give him peaceful rest, and may he intercede for us before the throne of grace.
