Personal Issues / Coptic Magazine Title
« on: February 27, 2013, 09:12:01 PM »
My Church may start a new monthly magazine. They are currently thinking about a name for the magazine.
Some used names are: "Al Keraza" by Pope Shenouda III, "Logos", etc.
I would like the name to be a Coptic name that is easy to pronounce, short, and meaningful.
I was thinking for example, "Soter" (meaning Savior)
Because I know that many of you are Coptic professionals, I thought you guys would have the best names ready for me. Your advice and suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Coptic Orthodox Church / Why forty days?
« on: October 29, 2012, 08:30:37 AM »
What is the forty days of grieving?
Why is a forty day memorial service conducted after a person's departure?
When a bishop passes away, why (if there is) such a thing as grieving for forty days?
Thanks for the clarifications.

Personal Issues / Dealing with young children
« on: October 07, 2012, 03:44:33 PM »
I remember reading something on a website on how to deal/teach young children in Sunday school or in hymns class, etc. It displayed different ages and told you how to deal with those in the different ages.
I am unable to find that website. Does anyone know where I can get this information from? Thank you.

Coptic Orthodox Church / Miaphysis and Orthodoxy
« on: September 11, 2012, 03:09:06 PM »
A non-Copt Orthodox person has messaged me asking these questions. I have no idea how to answer such questions because I'm not really knowledgeable about these things. Can anyone help me on how I can reply to these questions?:
1. Can somebody explain 'Miaphysis' to me; the teaching that in Jesus Christ both God and man are in union please?
2. Is 'Miaphysis' a Coptic, as well as an Ethiopian, Syrian, and Armenian teaching?
3. Are the Coptic, Ethiopian, Syrian, and Armenian Churches all in communion?
Thank you.

Personal Issues / Keeping the Lord always before your face
« on: August 02, 2012, 09:24:38 PM »
"I foresaw the Lord always before my face,
For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken."
(Acts 2:25)
How can I keep the Lord always before my face? Surely, if this was done, it would be impossible to fall into sin. This is my main problem. When I remember the Lord, I want to pray, go to church, and live the spiritual life in full communion with Him. However, when I go to school, I forget the Lord. When I go home, I forget the Lord. When I'm on the computer, I forget the Lord. When I'm anywhere outside of Church, it is very difficult to keep the Lord ALWAYS before my face. I wish I can do this, but there are too many distractions and when I forget the Lord for a while, I weaken before satan.
Any advice on learning to keep the Lord ALWAYS before me that I may not be shaken?
Thanks everyone

Coptic Orthodox Church / Greek Orthodox to Coptic Orthodox
« on: July 06, 2012, 04:00:32 PM »
I was asked by a Greek Orthodox Christian, "Is it difficult for a Greek Orthodox Christian to convert to Coptic Orthodoxy?"
When I asked what he meant, he said he meant the process of converting. I do not know how to reply.
Can someone, like Fr. Peter, please give me a true answer on this topic ASAP so I can get back to him? Thank you.

Personal Issues / Summer
« on: June 12, 2012, 03:07:58 PM »
Now that summer is here, what's a good way to spend the summer. I'm trying to avoid video games this summer. But with so much free time, it'll be hard to. Any suggestions for spiritual things to do?
Also, please be practical, don't tell me start my own clinic or to travel to Africa lol.

Personal Issues / What to do in spare time?
« on: May 28, 2012, 04:02:39 PM »
I am now approaching summer and school is near over. I will have a lot of spare time that I do not want to waste with xBox again...
So, what are some things that a high school student can do during his spare time on the computer at home? Are there any suggested things to read, great learning sites, or spiritually beneficial for growth sites/things that I can attend to during my spare time?
Thanks!

Coptic Orthodox Church / Which way do deacons face?
« on: May 14, 2012, 05:58:45 PM »
At my church, we are now beginning to establish our first deacon's chorus and our priest and servants were discussing which way the deacons would face while standing up on the platform (I don't know what it's called, where deacons stand on). Some said that facing sideways will cause distraction and some said that facing towards the East seemed the traditional way. My priest thus decided that we will try both ways and we will decide which would be better for the chorus. Is there any suggestions or rites of the church that particularly refer to this. Thanks everyone!

« on: April 20, 2012, 09:21:40 PM »
Is there a specific deaconate rank that is allowed to wear the badrasheel or is it for all deacons (psaltos to archdeacon) ?
What does it symbolize?
Thank you!
