Hymns Discussion / Rites for Palm Sunday
« on: April 20, 2013, 11:47:59 AM »
In the heritage site, it says that we pray the 3rd and 6th hours of agpeya on this feast. Is this correct? If so, why is it only this major feast?

I was wondering if anyone knew of any tamgeed or glorification hymns for St. Joseph. I don't mind if it's in Arabic, but I prefer if it were in English. Thank you all and God bless!

I was wondering where the source is for the first alleluia before Pi-o-ou fa Pennoty pe. Originally, in the old recordings there is only one alleluia. Where did the other come from? Who added it?

Faith Issues / On the Incarnation (St. Athanasius)
« on: April 04, 2012, 06:15:55 PM »
This question was supposed to be PM'd to Father Peter but for some technical reason I am unable to do so. Please refrain from commenting unless you know what you are saying or have references from the fathers.

My question is regarding the work of the great St. Athanasius On the Incarnation, in particular the chapter where he addresses the gentiles (Chapter 7). In it he states:

"But if the Word of God is in the universe, which is a body, and has entered into it in its every part, what is there surprising or unfitting in our saying that He has entered also into human nature?"

My issue is simply this:  I have a hard time accepting the part which states that He enters into every part. I believe there is a huge difference between being present everywhere (Omnipotence) and entering a certain body (thereby deifying it).  This sounds as if the universe makes up God. Can someone please clarify? I am not following the saint's train of thought. Is it possible he is trying to refute what the gentiles believe by applying their logic regarding the matter?

Hymns Discussion / Gospel Response (Exposition)
« on: March 28, 2012, 01:28:59 AM »
Hello All,

I was wondering what hymn was being chanted after the gospel response of the Liturgy before Sayedna had his funeral. They chanted something that sounded very similar to the exposition tune for the feasts but it had words about Pope Shenouda. I would like to know more about this....

Faith Issues / Quotes from Spiritual Fathers (Lent season)
« on: February 20, 2012, 05:19:46 PM »
I was wondering If we can start posting inspiring quotes from the fathers regarding fasting or the gospel's throughout Lent. The point is so that we can learn and benefit from the wisdom of the fathers and learn to apply it in our fast. Since I created this thread, I will initiate the first quote:

"Even the cross itself was but an expression of an existing reality, since Christ had crucified Himself for the world before the world crucified Him.... In Lent we prepare ourselves for the Last Supper. We prepare for two like things coming together. How could those who do not sacrifice themselves be worthy of Him who sacrificed His life? If we eat of a sacrificed body and do not sacrifice our own selves, how can we claim that a union takes place? The Mystical Supper on Thursday, which is the intentional acceptance of a life of sacrifice, is but a preparation for accepting sufferings openly, even unto death." [Fr. Matthew the Poor]

Hymns Discussion / Musical Notation for hymns
« on: January 08, 2012, 06:32:04 PM »
I was wondering If anyone annotated the following hymns using western musical notation.

For Feast of Theophany:
1. Praxis response
2. Ouran Enshoushou
3. Pachoice
4. Psalm response

I am aware of George Kyrollos' website and He does not have anything for the feast of Theophany (Epiphany). If anyone has written these hymns down, I would appreciate it if I can get access. If there are none, I would appreciate it if someone would be able to write the music itself.

God bless

Hymns Discussion / Nativity Mohayar
« on: January 02, 2012, 03:44:10 AM »
My question is for the Coptic linguists. The beginning of the Mohayar for Nativity originally was written as "A Penchoice" and recorded like so. However, I am noticing certain cantors saying "Pachoice." I am aware of the fact that there should be an "A" whenever it is followed by a verb. The text reads: "Our Lord Jesus Christ, was born of the Virgin, in Bethlehem of Judea, according to the prophetic sayings." In this case, there is no verb but a noun...does this this mean that it is correct to say "Pachoice" instead of "A Penchoice?"
