Personal Issues / Coptic Magazine Title
« on: February 27, 2013, 09:12:01 PM »
My Church may start a new monthly magazine. They are currently thinking about a name for the magazine.
Some used names are: "Al Keraza" by Pope Shenouda III, "Logos", etc.
I would like the name to be a Coptic name that is easy to pronounce, short, and meaningful.
I was thinking for example, "Soter" (meaning Savior)
Because I know that many of you are Coptic professionals, I thought you guys would have the best names ready for me. Your advice and suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Coptic Orthodox Church / Re: Why forty days?
« on: October 29, 2012, 10:28:40 AM »Probably because the children of Israel wept 40 days for Moses
They only wept 30 days for Moses. "And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. So the days of weeping and mourning for Moses ended." (Deut 34:8 )
What is the forty days of grieving?I have asked before and the answer was that it came from Pharaonic not Christian origins.
Why is a forty day memorial service conducted after a person's departure?
When a bishop passes away, why (if there is) such a thing as grieving for forty days?
Thanks for the clarifications.
I think so too.

Coptic Orthodox Church / Re: Becoming Coptic Orthodox Christian
« on: October 27, 2012, 09:09:23 PM »Get this gent in touch with Father John Ramzy of St. Mark's Toronto.
Father John served in West African countries and frequently visits the region there with a group of priests and servants under the supervision of Bishop Antonius Morcos. They will have him connected to a catechumen group and nourish him spiritually until he is ready for Baptism, if he chooses to.
I don't know how to get in touch with Father John Ramzy. St. Mark's Toronto Church's website does not even declare him as one of their priests. I cannot find his phone number anywhere.
You can also direct him to CopticWorld.com where he can contact many priests/bishops, and see where churches are around the world.
I also know a priest who served in Kenya before coming to the states. His name is Fr. Moussa Shafik
http://stabraam.org/our-church/our-clergy/137-father-moussa-shafik.html
I sent him Fr. Moussa's contact info and told him to join copticworld.org and gave him the code.
Thank you.

I told him "I do not understand your question. Coptic means Egyptian. Do you mean that you want to become Orthodox Christian, and that you plan to join the Coptic Orthodox Church?"
He replied, "Yes exactly"
So, are there even any Coptic Orthodox Churches in Ghana. If there aren't what should he do?

Elementary is a vast range of ages.
If you are referring to the weakest level, here are some hymns with minimum hazzat:
- Amen Alleloia Zoxa Patri (Conclusion)
- Epooro ente ti-hirini (Glorification)
- Tengosht evol (Vespers)
Also, here are hymns curriculums for all the grades and ages:

Hymns Discussion / Re: Aki or aktonk, etc...
« on: October 08, 2012, 08:07:26 PM »Thanks. I sort of knew when to say which, but i got confused because i heard in alsheia on saturday evening (for sunday liturgy) where we said aki, but the next day in liturgy we said aktonk... So i guess my real question is should saturday evening alsheia follow the rites of the sunday liturgy that follows it (as in saying aki or aktonk, and to extend upon my question, chanting the Adam or Watos intro for the verses of cymbals)
Aktonk, and we should chant the watos verses of cymbals and do not ask me why. I asked and never got an answer.
we say watos and aki at my Church during Sunday Vespers

And another question on top of that would be the Midnight Praises before the Sunday Liturgy, Aki or Aktonk?

Personal Issues / Dealing with young children
« on: October 07, 2012, 03:44:33 PM »
I remember reading something on a website on how to deal/teach young children in Sunday school or in hymns class, etc. It displayed different ages and told you how to deal with those in the different ages.
I am unable to find that website. Does anyone know where I can get this information from? Thank you.
