Hymns Discussion / Re: Ti-Shoree Good Friday

At our church we chant it in the more common tune, and then we chant it in the annual tune in English. This is to accommodate our English-only speakers. I don't see a problem with chanting it both ways just because the common way isn't that long.

Note that in Pentecost it is also different... We read the third hour until the gospel. The litanies are prayed after the Acts of the Apostles

I don't have Windows 8, but I can tell you after installing Coptic Fonts Standard it didn't work for me (the past 3-4 times I've done it).
You'll need the Athanasious fonts.
You can get them here:

Faith Issues / Re: Matthew 4

how can he tell that that he will make him a king over the whole earth and he knows that Jesus is the king?

I'd like to note that Earth is NOT our Lord Jesus Christ's kingdom. He even said it Himself "My Kingdom is not of this world"

The word "kingdom" is defined as being under the laws or the rules of a king. The presence of sin in this world does not make it eligible to be God's kingdom!

We can prepare our hearts to be a kingdom for God, our home can be a kingdom of God, our church, our workplace, etc. but the earth, itself, is, indeed, the devil's kingdom.

Lol Math is my thing, and I'm also a grammar Nazi

Just wish my reading comprehension was up to that level. This was like 5 years ago though lol I'm sure the SAT has changed

I'm actually the opposite! I got perfect scores on Math and Writing but the reading I got like a 590 or something.

My advice to you: Do a bunch of math problems from that book. If you find one you can't do, or if you find one that takes you a long time, go to khanacademy.org and watch videos about that specific type of problem.

Alternatively, Khan has videos just for SAT Math Prep:

Also, as long as you do your part studying, have faith that God will do the rest :)

do you guys loose a lot of weight in the process ?

55 days without proteins or vitamin D sounds very hard

I think we can go straight to the bible for this one! If we read the Holy Book of Daniel Chapter 1, it's a story about Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. The King wanted to make fit servants for himself, and he ordered that they all be trained over 3 years eating from the King's delicacies and drinking of the king's wine. But Daniel and the three youth didn't want to defile themselves with these delicacies, so he asked that they be tested for 10 days. They would be given vegetables and water for 10 days and then be compared with all the other servants who got the delicacies. And at the end of the 10 days, the youth and Daniel were in much better shape and healthier than the others.

The way I see it, the Gospel response Je Peniwt is the perfect response to the Gospel of the Sunday before Lent.
If you remember, the Gospel is the one where our Lord Jesus Christ tells the people "when you pray, say Our Father Who is in Heaven, Hallowed be Your Name", etc. And the response Je Peniwt (as you probably know) translates to Our Father Who is in Heaven, hallowed be Your Name, etc.

Likewise, we see that there is an Evening Prayer for this Sunday. The evening prayer (which is different from a Vespers prayer), is a rite reserved for Sundays of the Great Lent. It's almost exactly like the Vespers prayer, except the Gospel pertains to Sunday's gospel rather than Monday's gospel. That's why it's called an Evening Prayer and not Vespers.

So I think the existence of that Evening Prayer is proof enough that the rite of the Great Lent begins on the Sunday before Lent.

You can also direct him to CopticWorld.com where he can contact many priests/bishops, and see where churches are around the world.

I also know a priest who served in Kenya before coming to the states. His name is Fr. Moussa Shafik
