returnorthodoxy,
romans 8:28 says that everything works together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. so if someone runs away from their responsibilities and studies, maybe God will allow them to suffer cold and hunger to remind them that they should not rebel and do their own thing.
the saints who went into the desert were not running away from difficult relationships, Godly responsibilities and irritating people in the church, but were giving up comfort in order to have better spiritual lives.
most of us have all we need around us to achieve great spiritual maturity, eg. problems at work / school, people we live with who humiliate us, and challenges at church.
lets welcome the difficulties we face, as through this, we can be closer to God.

Mabsoota,

Forgive me, I was just being a jerk. I was trying to make a joke but I can see how it came about as an argument. Forgive me for challenging, and forgive me for taking the tone of the discussion into a joke. Regardless, your response was edifying and was a good lesson in fulfilling one's duties.

oh, i'm really sorry, i didn't realise it was a joke.
i know some young people come on the site, so i didn't want anyone to take the previous joke about going to the wilderness too seriously!
some people (like me, for example!) take things seriously when they are meant as a joke.
oops!
