  • @kassiane The song "Don't leave me alone" is not really a Coptic hymn, personally I suspect it might be a little Protestant-influenced. Also, don't think the grass is always greener with respect to the Eastern Orthodox vs the Copts:"What about all t…

  • @WithJesusWeThrive No, FirstChurch points out actual differences between the Coptic and all other churches' wording.  I hope an answer can be found.
  • @kassiane In what way is the Coptic Church more in line with your beliefs?  The Holy Synod of the Coptic Church has stated that we have the same faith as the Eastern Orthodox.

  • @Remnkemi How do you define Apostolic Church?

  • Sorry Rem, I'm a little confused, I was talking about the Liturgy of St Basil.
  • @EsmoEpchois To answer your question about 6 months late, here is Pope Shenouda discussing the case of Fr Daniel el Baramousy: https://www.facebook.com/RabttHmatAlayman/posts/1120657211287609
  • Agreed, they are both great sites! returntoorthodoxy.comorthokairos.weebly.com
  • I don't know, but note that this addition is unique to the Coptic Church, other Orthodox do not use it.
  • @Nona Agreed!  I'm not opposed to giving attention to Arabic speaking youth, but it should not obscure the Church's catholicity and its mission to be spiritually Orthodox and culturally American.
  • I *think* one of the monks at St Moses Abbey Texas may have a copy.  Don't ask me which monk though, just something I vaguely remember.
  • @Remnkemi How can the Church's stance on abortion be de facto left as a pastoral matter at the discretion individual priests?  We should not have this divorce between "practical" pastoral care and "technical" theology.
  • @Remnkemi I agree with you regarding the taraneem being pseudo-Protestant even when the authors are technically baptised Orthodox. But the quote @ophadece was referring to about being "hard to get rid of" was in a later part of the video relating …
  • @ophadece I think that's just code for "some of the other bishops don't want to get rid of it". Anyway, that's a different topic because these are songs that developed organically in an "Orthodox" environment.
  • “Today when there are youth who compose taraneem ["spiritual songs"], you’ll find it’s just some random youth we don’t know where he’s from who sat down in an afternoon sipping a cup of strong coffee. And what has he come up with? A nice song. It ha…
  • @faithinthelord Well, naturally, the people that priests are most interested to matchmake are future priests.
  • BTW, the source of the above criteria is http://returntoorthodoxy.com/criteria-coptic-orthodox-song-holy-synod/
  • The Criteria of the Coptic Orthodox Song The Committee of Faith, Education and Legislation, Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church 14th June 20031. The sentences of the Orthodox song should be far from claiming the guarantee of obtaining the etern…
  • There is a series of articles on the diaconate and minor orders here:http://www.canadox.ca
  • @minatasgeel But that's a very UNtraditional definition.  A subdeacon is supposed to be an assistant to the deacon in the altar (censer, utensils, etc) and outside the altar (dogs, heretics, etc).  The first job is now performed by chanters and the …
  • @SMBM Agreed completely.  It's not right that ignorant/lackadaisical parishes should just be left to make up their own pseudo-orthodoxy.
  • @SMBM Of course it is the role of the Synod to set these kinds of guidelines.  All I was disagreeing with is the kind of language you are using and the ecclesiology it implies.  You seem to be implying that the current popular thinking that the Copt…
  • @SMBM The problem with insisting on top-down uniformity from a Synod in Egypt as a necessary condition for a united global Coptic Church is that it completely ignores our sister OO Churches, and implies that either they are not the Church, or that t…
  • @SMBM The Coptic Church is not and can never be a "globalising" Church, despite all the rhetoric to the contrary. @katanikhoros I don't think so.
  • This is being researched currently by the hierarchy. Archdeacon Cyril Antonious (Anba David's deacon) is doing a full study of the issue. There was supposed to be a vote on the rules for chanter/psaltos this month in the Holy Synod meeting, but th…
  • @peterfarrington Beautiful article, Abouna!
  • @missionarycopts btw, I just wanted to add that while the video you posted contained no blatantly heterodox praxis (thank God!), it's not all that brilliant either. Some of the modern Roman Catholic songs used are rather banal, and the pop-like re…
  • @AntoniousNikolas Amen!
  • @missionarycopts Also, I'd like to correct myself that the video I posted in my first reply to you is not "of what happened directly following the video you posted".  Thanks for the correction.
  • @missionarycopts said: "There are many Churches which do same type of singing in youth groups and not the liturgy." Unfortunately you are correct.  This is the major reason Bishop Raphael gave the sermon in the OP (which I highly recommend you watch…
  • @missionarycopts I initially didn't want to post this kind of evidence here, but since you feel that Anba Antony and I are speaking based on "hearsay" I am compelled to do so. Watch from 6:01, and again from 1:34:10, and from 1:43:00: And if you wa…
