Do you have any advice for a new convert?

  • Find a good confession father and stick with his advices.

On the social arena - Buckle Up! You might experience some cultural shock. Almost all Orthodox communities are good at heart but navigating through the cultural nuances can be a challenge - so don’t be discouraged easily.

I've never had a formal confession. I touched on this in my thread about visiting a Coptic church.

The weird part is that I feel like I should fit in better than I do because I am a little bit Armenian.  That is part of why, as the only convert in my family, I went for Armenian. I have a complicated relationship with that part of my heritage though as I've come to acknowledge and explore it more.  I visited a Coptic church a while before I considering converting, and it was CULTURE SHOCK from the moment stepped into the sanctuary. I am hoping to visit there again and a Syriac church to see what it is like.
