Nek nai

edited December 1969 in Hymns Discussion
Is there different ways of saying Nek nai, in the midnight tasbeha?

I was listening to the monks of ST ANthony's Monastery: http://tasbeha.org/mp3/Praises/Midnight_Praises/St_Anthony_Monastery,_English_Midnight_Praises/Part_2.html and they were saying is completely different tune.

  • This is an alternative tune. Some people say it during Lent, but it can be said whenever. The only tunes for this is the morning doxology tune as well as this one.

    God bless
  • I really love this tune! Can you direct me to recordings of the morning doxologies?

Here are the morning doxologies: http://tasbeha.org/mp3/Hymns/Annual/Verses_of_Cymbals_and_Doxologies/Cantor_Gad_Lewis/Doxologies.html
  • I was taught that this is the correct tune to chant the Conclusion to the Adam Theotokias.

The Morning Doxology tune should only be when chanting it after the Morning Doxology.

Can you clarify? The correct tune for the Conclusion of the Adam Theotokias is the link from the OP?

    So I was taught, yes.
  • Yes ! there is another tune. I was not taught the way you posted but a different way. It sounds like these:

    http://tasbeha.org/media/index.php?st=Praises/Midnight_Praises/Sourian_Monastery,_Coptic_Midnight_Praises/Part_4/42_Nek_nai.506.mp3

    http://tasbeha.org/mp3/Praises/Midnight_Praises/Wagdi_Bishara.html

As far as I know they are both correct. +God Bless+! :)
  • Awww i never knew that this was the proper way of chanting it.

But can the alternative tune be used, during the normal midnight tasbeha?
  • Basically the Alexandrian style is the one not on morning doxology tune. I believe this is the correct teaching. Neknai on morning doxology tune however should only be used at the conclusion of such (not midnight Adam chants).
