Eleison E Mas/ Je Nai Nan/ Have Mercy

edited December 1969 in Hymns Discussion
I think everyone has heard two versions of this hymn, one were it is:

"have mercy upon o God the father the Pantocrator, have mercy upon us o God our savior, have mercy upon us o God and have mercy:

and the second:

"have mercy upon us o God our savior, have mercy upon us o God our savior, have mercy upon us o God our savior"

Why is there two versions? And which is the original ?

  • Not really. There is one with Our Savior in Saint Gregory's. There is The Pantocrator in Saint Cyril's. There isn't one for Saint Basil and since it speaks to the Holy Trinity, there is one for the Trinty
  • St Basil liturgy is the same as St Cyril's in the sense that the prayer s directed to the Father. Hence, we use only "have mercy upon o God the father the Pandocrator"
