Online Course on Armenian Hymnography

edited December 1969 in Hymns Discussion
Agape,

I came across an entire online video course on Armenian Hymnography. The course is from St. Nersess Armenian Seminary in NY.

The link to the first course is: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/12302542

They also get into Byzantine, Syrian, and Georgian traditions of hymnography and how the Armenian tradition was influenced and influenced those traditions as well. More importantly, the theology of the hymns are discussed in details, and that would be very interesting in terms of the hymns that we share with our sister Church.

  • The Course is rendered by Very Rev. Fr. (Hayr Sorp) Daniel Findikyan, the Academic Dean of St. Nersess.  He is a Professor of Liturgical Studies, and the translator of the most current Archdiociesan translation of the Armenian Badarak (Armenian Liturgy).  He studied at the Pontifical Institute of Oriental Studies in Rome.
  • I know this father....he came to COF for one of the meetings and spoke about the history of the Armenian church and it's status now.
