    for Genithlion: working on it.
    -------------------
for Oseya: it been a loooooong time since i heard it (more than 2 yrs) and i can't even find it. but even if i would of, i wouldn't easily share this; for good reasons.

  • what's Genithlion and Oseya? are they different versions of Amdah fel Batoul? I've only heard one version...
  • WELl Mina it's up to you after all, but would you mind letting me know of the good reasons to stop you sharing it? I won't be intrusive but I'm just curious to know... God bless you and pray for us a lot

    and Oseya?

a lost hymn in tune.....but the text is there: http://tasbeha.org/hymn_library/view/1497

are they different versions of Amdah fel Batoul? I've only heard one version...

well not versions......there are differnt parts in arabic that are differnt in text.
also it's worth mentioning that the general translation of the english parts most our churches use in the states, they are not the WHOLE HYMN!! whoever translated choose simply not to include some parts.

What? How did you get text for a hymn without the tune!?

Do you think we can ever recover these tunes?
  • I think the tune is recoverable (is that a word?) If there is like another apet jeek evol situation.... maybe old cantors that arent too well known know it?

What? How did you get text for a hymn without the tune!?

hmmmm...text is written on paper....tune is heard and memorized by people....which are simply not thre anymore. this is so to many hymns we have.

Do you think we can ever recover these tunes?

i think we should care about what we already have FIRST than worry about the lost ones.

"old cantors" are old........from the old times.....good luck finding them.

  • I thought it was:

    Sabany hobek
    Ya fakhr el rotab
    Moosa raaky (ya Mariam)
    Aagab min aagab
    wil anadeel fadah bitidawee
    wil solban dahab
(wih damadhy el batool zada {or mala} albee farah madaha ah alatool alatool khala enshara)
    Ya obit moosa ya Mariam
    Ya shoriet Haroon

My Arabic is very weak, and your text is probably more correct than mine. I have no idea, but that's just the way I've been saying it.

he probably wrote them down from hearing it......if i must say someone: maybe a recording of boules malak or Anba Youannis. things that you hear are not exactly the same as they are written.
  • I actually have a few questions of my own regarding Amdah Fel Batool which I may know some answers but not confirmed...

    1. What is the history of this hymn? When, where and who wrote it?
    2. Was it written in arabic? (And that's why there's no Coptic version of it)
    3. When is it sung?
    4. Is there an english translation? And do any of the churches sing it in English for the sake of it?

    Cheers

    1. What is the history of this hymn? When, where and who wrote it?

if i'll rmemeber, i'll try to find out from the psalmody.

    2. Was it written in arabic? (And that's why there's no Coptic version of it)

yes; arabic. like many of the kiahk madayeh.

    3. When is it sung?

before te-oi enhikanos....even though in the middle of the week ppl just fit it in after shashf ensob cuz it's that famous.

    4. Is there an english translation? And do any of the churches sing it in English for the sake of it?

    MANY.
  • Some churches say it in English.

    13th track down

    Your love embraced me
    O pride of nations
    Moses have seen you
    Surprise and marvel

    And the lamps are bright
    With golden crosses
    O Mary, Moses’ dome
    O Aaronʹs censer

    I praise the Virgin
    And explain and say
    O, the origin
    And the hidden Pearl

    Through your Son, our Lady
    Cause of salvation
    We reached the goal
    And you brought us joy

    Was truly Incarnate
    From a Virgin girl
    Crucified and died
    For us at Golgotha

    The fruit of my pledge
    O, daughter of Zion
    To love your Son
    And proclaim and say

    Gabriel came
    With tidings and sayings
    You accepted his word
    In calmness and wisdom

    He dwelt by His Word
    In strength and power
    You became like heaven
    O, daughter of Zion

    He saved Adam
    After his sorrow
    And has freed the world
    We rejoice in you

    He is glorified
    And promised His Apostles
    To save His people
    From Satanʹs bondage

    Concerning you, David said
    The King rejoiced in you
    And took flesh from you
    The Lord on His Throne

    Myriads and thousands
    Standing around the Throne
Ranks and orders Saints and martyrs

    Sorrow was taken away
    And weʹre comforted
    Through you O, Mary
The pride of the human race

    Salome witnessed
    That the Virgin gave birth
    She believed and confirmed
    Theʺ mystery of mysteries

    Solomon your father
    Praised in hymns and songs
    And Jacob saw you
    An upright ladder

    The chiefs had proclaimed
    O fruitful vine
Youʹre a Virgin and a bride
    As they prophesied

    Zephaniah proclaimed
    That Jesus will appear
    As rain and dew
    While her Virginity is sealed

    Eve caused Adam to stray
    In tears he cried
    Naked he was exiled
Without you they would not return

    Your rank is up high
    And great is your glory
    The Lord honored you
    O, Aaronʹs censer

    Many praised you
Youʹre the cause of all joy
    You comfort everyone
    Whoʹs sorrowful and humble

    My heart rejoice in you
    O, Virgin Mary
    Ask your Son Jesus
To protect me by His Might

    Existent before the ages
    Suffered and was crucified
    He rose from His sleep
    And the Disciples preached

    The righteous Apostles
    And the four Evangelists
    Preached in all nations
    The tidings and rejoice

    Glory is due to you
    O, daughter of Joachim
    You bore a great mystery
And gave birth to the Most High

    Moses and Daniel
    Said many parables
    And you fit all that
    Mysteriously and more

You caused the world to shine
    O, the pride of faith
    All the creatures were free
    Because of you, Mary

    Gifts were offered in faith
    To the King of kings
    By the great Magi
    Myrrh, gold and frankincense

    They worshipped the born King
    The Lord of lords
    And Herod was terrified
    And his soldiers marveled

Do not forsake at that time
    A poor and humble sinner
    Your plead on Judgment Day
    And for all the Christians

    We ask of Him forgiveness
    Faith and repentance
    To be in calmness
    We the believers
