Passion Week Contemplations

edited December 1969 in Faith Issues
Hi,

What did everyone here make out of today's Passion Week's readings? In particular Hosea:

12 Sow for yourselves righteousness,
reap the fruit of unfailing love,
      and break up your unplowed ground;
for it is time to seek the LORD,
      until he comes
      and showers righteousness on you.

13 But you have planted wickedness,
      you have reaped evil,
you have eaten the fruit of deception.
Because you have depended on your own strength
      and on your many warriors,

How would you sow for yourself righteousness? How would you go about doing that?

  • Hey, nice thread, there should be more of these threads during this Holy Week.

In terms of sowing righteousness there are several means:

    Pursue it
    1 Timothy 6:11
But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.

    2 Timothy 2:22
Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

    Believe God
    James 2:23
And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”And he was called the friend of God.

    Curb wrath
    James 1:20
for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

    Practice chastity
    Hebrews 12:11
Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

    Make peace
    James 3:18
Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Suffer for the sake of righteousness
    1 Peter 3:14
But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”

    Love your brother
    1 John 3:10
In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

    Honest and humble service
    2 Corinthians 9:10
Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness,

This is a good motivation for us:
    Romans 14:17
for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

    Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    For they shall be filled.

  • What I find strange is the fact that there are no more RECENT(2009) videos on Youtube of the ("Holy Fire Miracle") sepulcher -during the Resurrection of Jesus Christ our God and Savior. Does anyone have any links to any recent videos if not... well thanks anyway and God bless you.

    Please pray for me.

    THanks Selah,

All that's really good, but how -in a practical sense, can we actually BE "righteous"?

    What does that involve?
  • +All righteous and goodness comes from God. We are nothing without Him. But Sowing for yourself "righteousness" is following God and His commandments, thats your 'work'. Everyone calls job the prophet, righteous, what makes him so righteous is that he followed God and His commandments and understood that without God he is nothing. We need to have the same mindset coz its the reality, without God we are nothing. To put confidence in God and not in man. We must not forget that God is the Just Judge Who will judge us on our works in judgment day. It also says in that passage from hosea "until He comes", that could mean judgement day, if u cultivated for yourself righteous, that is what you will reap in the harvest at the last day and God will allow you enter into His Heavenly Kingdom where all goodness is... What you cultivate is what you will reap.

Read your Holy Bible every chance you get. Ask God to explain the meanings of the 'Mystery's' you do not quite understand. Pray daily, pray for your enemies and friends. Show godly love and compassion to all! As the scriptures say 'God allows the sun to shine on the good and the wicked.'
Be Christ-like. Read about the lives of the Saints and try to live as they did. Keep in contact with the Church Priests, our 'shepards'. Attend Church services as much as possible.....keep in communion with Christ. Pray to the Holy Spirit to guide you along the paths of righteousness! Seek Him!!!
  • Hi,

I think it was righteousness what Joseph, the son of Jacob did, when he did not sin with Pharoah's wife.

If I remember correctly, it was also counted to Abraham as righteousness his faith when he offered his son.

What about today's readings? Did you like anything in particular?
